Serves as part of the rehabilitation care team and as an expert in developing and implementingdevelopmental performance plans to bridge formal rehabilitation and client activity goals. Theperformance clinic athletic trainer is responsible for being a part of the performance team with coachinggroups of athletes, adults and individuals to reach their highest levels in preparation for competition andlife. Essential Functions• Perform appropriate patient intake for a variety of medical and musculoskeletal conditions. Thisincludes, but is not limited to, thorough history of condition or injury, chief complaint, assessmentof pain level, completion and / or review of past medical history, family history social history andmedication reconciliation. Perform appropriate physical examination per patient history and chiefcomplaint. This includes but is not limited to palpation of the affected area and unaffected area,range of motion testing, strength testing / manual muscle testing / dynamic muscle testing,myotome/dermatome testing, ligamentous stress testing, or functional testing. At direction ofsupervising therapist, perform appropriate point of care testing.• Document all aspects of treatment progression, testing appropriately within the EMR. Triagepatient messages, phone calls and questions appropriately, whether it is resolving issue within thescope of practice or utilizing therapist, or other ancillary staff as needed to resolve question.Manage EMR communication in a timely manner and communicates both delays, andresults/subsequent plan of care in a courteous, efficient, and patient-appropriate manner.Respond to problems/opportunities to improve patient care & customer service. Serve aspreceptor to undergraduate athletic training student interns.• Based on patient diagnosis, current activity level and patient care plan goal, collaborates withsupervising therapist to: Develop and teach an appropriate home exercise program. Effectivelyeducate patient as to why any of the above or combination of the above is included in the plan ofcare.• Uses current best practices for concussion evaluation and care, which includes but is not limitedto: Symptom scoring via detailed clinical interview. ImPACT neurocognitive test. Vestibular OcularMotor Screen. Balance Assessment. Recognition of symptom clusters, clinical trajectories basedon symptom presentation• Collaborates with supervising therapist to develop a specific concussion care plan for each patientthat includes academic and physical recommendations based on clinical assessment.• Foster positive relationships with participants, team members, partners and potential clients.Support growth with outreach initiatives and community engagement activity. Work independentlywhile maintaining departmental standards.• Demonstrates good working knowledge of various training techniques, flexibility and creativity inimplementation of these techniques. Designs plans in coordination with medical providers andother services the patient is receiving. Maintain accurate records. Demonstrates awareness anduse of proper safety measures regarding patients. Functions as part of the interdisciplinary team.• Cover community events and or sport functions as needed.• Human Experience:• Gain customer confidence through competence, good communication, and trust buildingbehaviors.• Show courage through creating and sharing innovative ideas to improve the experience for bothpatients and peers.• Round on patients to create meaningful connections and keep patients informed of visit details(delays/wait times).• Model the service standards through consistently engaging in Always Event behaviors and viewfeedback through the patient lens.• Recognize and value the unique differences and similarities in both our team members andpatients to create an inclusive environment where diversity is celebrated.• Explain all processes to patients in plain language and utilize teach back to ensure understanding.• Know and model the mission, vision and values, and how they relate to role-specificresponsibilities.• Model our people credo through a passion to care for each other, our patients and ourcommunities.Non-Essential FunctionsAll other duties as assigned.
