Career-Line Assistant Professor (Lecturer) Faculty

TheDepartment of Parks, Recreation, and Tourismin theCollege of Healthat theUniversity of Utahis pleased to announce a career-line Assistant Professor (Lecturer) position. The Department is looking for a skilled educator who will assist in the coordination of our outdoor experiential education classes (U- EXPLORE) and represent the Department as academic faculty liaison for a new outdoor recreation living and learning community on campus.

The Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism will serve as the academic partner to the new living and learning community. As academic partner, the unit provides a 50% faculty appointment to the oversight of learning opportunities for students in the community. The other 50% of this position will be assisting with the coordination of UExplore outdoor experiential learning courses offered through the Department. In order to fulfill the two-fold responsibilities of this position, the successful candidate will have experience in facilitating outdoor recreation experiences, teaching outdoor recreation leadership, recruiting and supervising field staff, curriculum development, and an interest in/experience with student affairs and student development.

U- EXPLORE

U- EXPLOREis the University’s home of outdoor experiential education, offering 80+ 2-credit courses each year. Examples of courses include Backcountry Yoga, Desert Backpacking, and Ski Mountaineering. Curriculum emphases are outdoor recreation skill development, public land policy, and environmental awareness; we also hope to develop “teams of friends” who can support each other throughout their academic careers, and beyond. We are proud to serve 1,800 students each year.

Minimum Qualifications : M.S. and academic preparation in parks, recreation, tourism or a closely related discipline required.
