State of Utah - Jobs Automation/Measurement Engineer in SALT LAKE CITY, Utah

Job Title:  Engineer IV *may underfill at a level III,II Job Description: The Utah Division of Water Rights is seeking an automation engineer wherein the candidate will be responsible for installing,maintaining,and inspecting measurement devices on water diversions and waterways throughout the State of Utah. The successful candidate will assist in the distribution of water throughout the State of Utah. The candidate will also work closely with various river commissioners and river committees to ensure equitable distribution of water,while providing technical expertise to ensure system is operating in accordance with Utah laws and rules. *This position is open to telework options. The home base office is located in Salt Lake City with statewide telework opportunities. The State of Utah requires all employees to physically work inside the State of Utah Boundaries. Travel is required.  Princial Duties:

  • Install,inspect and maintain water measurement equipment. 
  • Evaluate and oversee water measurement. 
  • Train water commissioners. 
  • Analyze,summarize,and review the accuracy of measured data using engineering judgment. 

Ideal Candidate:

  • A working knowledge of Utah water rights,their characteristics and attributes. 
  • A working knowledge of Division of Water Rights policies and procedures. 
  • A working knowledge of research and investigation methods and techniques. 
  • Ability to use logic to analyze or identify underlying principles,reasons or facts associated with information or data to draw conclusions. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively to individuals,groups,and other agencies. 

*To Qualify for the Engineer II ($32.57- $54.53) Satisfactory completion of Engineer -In-Training (EIT) or the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FE) required.  Incumbents have experience working as an Engineer but are not licensed as a Professional Engineer. Most of their work must be reviewed and approved by a licensed Engineer. Incumbents use independent judgment in the modification and evaluation of standard techniques,perform independently on most assignments,receiving technical guidance on unusual problems. Incumbents apply the knowledge and techniques of advanced mathematics and engineering to assignments. To Qualify for the Engineer III ($35.49 - $57.56) Must be registered as a professional engineer in accordance with the provisions of Utah Code Annotated 58-22. This is a working level job requiring minimal supervision. Incumbents in this job utilize advanced training,experience and independent judgment in the evaluation and modification of complex engineering situations requiring specialized abilities. Incumbents apply the knowledge and techniques of advanced mathematics and engineering to assignments.
