Job Description Summary

The Acute Care Chaplain works within the healthcare continuum providing emotional, spiritual, and religious care for patients, families, and staff. The Chaplain is responsible to utilize effective communication skills with all patients, volunteers, and staff in a timely, concise, clear, and positive manner.

As a Chaplain, you will assess and plan for the individual spiritual care needs and resources of staff, patients, residents, and their families. The Chaplain is responsible to utilize effective communication skills with all patients, volunteers, and staff in a timely, concise, clear, and positive manner.

The essential duties and responsibilities of Chaplain consists of:

  1. Initiates pastoral visits and responds to referrals to visit patients and/or their families.

  2. Conducts assessment of spiritual needs of patients, residents, family members, physicians, associates and volunteers.

  3. Assists patients and families with advance directives and end-of-life resources. Provides resources for transition, bereavement and loss.

  4. Participates in multidisciplinary patient rounds, care conferences ethics consultations and documents, as appropriate, in patients’ electronic medical record 5. Responds to crisis situations (e.g. Code Blue, trauma, death) to provide spiritual care and support.

  5. Facilitates prayer, rituals and worship services. Offers workshops (e.g., spirituality, advance directives) as needed. Works to accommodate the spiritual needs and requests of all faith. Assists with the specific sacramental needs of the Catholic patients such as Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick.

  6. Supports ongoing partnerships with community clergy.

  7. Promotes mission, vision, and values of Intermountain Health, and abides by service behavior standards.

  8. Participates in on call responsibilities as requested.

  9. Participate in maintenance of proper administrative procedures for the department in accordance with institutional policy.

  10. Assists with the development of the department's plan for continuous quality improvement.1

  11. Participates in hospital wide committees. May lead specific committee projects and initiatives.

  12. Other Duties as Assigned

Required Education:

  1. Bachelors Degree is required.

  2. Masters Degree in Divinity, Theology or related field within two (2) years of hire is required.

Required Certification, Registration, License:

  1. Two units Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) by the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) accredited centers is required.

  2. Board Certification by APC, NACC, NAJC, or SCA required within two years of hire.

  3. Letter of Recommendation of suitability by senior administrative leader of religious tradition (Parish, Synagogue, Conference, Elder Board, etc.) required.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

$29.22 - $46.03
