Job Summary

The University Campus Store is seeking a detail-oriented and reliable individual to join our team as a part-time custodian. The custodian will play a crucial role in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards within the store premises. This position is vital for ensuring a safe and pleasant environment for both staff and customers.

This part-time custodial position offers an opportunity to contribute to the overall cleanliness and maintenance of the University Campus Store while working in a dynamic and collaborative environment. Join our team and help us create a welcoming and inviting space for our customers and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing surfaces in all areas of the store, including sales floor, restrooms, break rooms, and storage areas.

  • Properly dispose of trash and recycling materials according to established procedures and guidelines.

  • Monitor inventory of cleaning supplies and inform management of any shortages. Restock supplies as needed in restrooms, break rooms, and other designated areas.

  • Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of floors by mopping spills, spot-cleaning carpets, and using floor cleaning equipment as necessary.

  • Report any maintenance or repair issues observed during routine cleaning to the appropriate department for timely resolution.

  • Follow all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for oneself and others. This includes handling cleaning chemicals according to safety guidelines and using personal protective equipment ( PPE ) when necessary.

  • Work cooperatively with other custodial staff and store personnel to accomplish cleaning tasks efficiently and effectively.

  • Assist with special cleaning projects and tasks as assigned by store management, such as deep cleaning initiatives or setup for special events.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be a current University of Utah student.

Preferences

  • Previous experience in custodial or janitorial work preferred but not required.

  • Ability to work independently and efficiently with minimal supervision.

  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining cleanliness standards.

  • Good communication skills and the ability to follow instructions.

  • Physical stamina and the ability to perform tasks that involve bending, lifting, and standing for extended periods.

  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
