GIS / Data Scientist Intern needed for a Salt Lake City employer.
The Wasatch Front Regional Council (WFRC) prepares transportation plans and programs as the designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Salt Lake City and Ogden-Layton Urbanized Areas. WFRC builds consensus and enhances quality of life by developing and implementing visions and plans for a well-functioning multi-modal transportation system, livable communities, a strong economy, and a healthy environment. In an effort to further WFRC's mission, the following internship position is available for Winter 2025.
Timing: January 2025 - April 2025
Hours/week: up to 20 (with preference for Tuesday and Thursday onsite availability)
Wages/Salary: $17.00/hour
Description
Work with the WFRC Analytics Group on a variety of projects that support regional mapping/analysis, travel demand modeling, and land use forecasting. Specic topics may include road, transit, and bicycle/pedestrian travel; housing, parcels, and land use plans; regional employment distribution; and economic development and regional quality of life. Skills and interests that may be called upon include: GIS and spatial analysis; Python coding and platforms for automating repeatable data processing tasks (R, SQL, ArcPro model builder, etc); statistics and modeling; and a general interest and understanding in urban/regional information systems.
Qualification:
Undergraduate or graduate student in the eld of urban planning, geography, data science, economic policy, and/or civil engineering. Prociency with ArcGIS Pro is strongly preferred.
