Job Description

The PCB Chief Technologist will be the technical leader and subject matter expert for all areas of PCB design and fabrication. The PCB Chief Technologist will also be a consultant in these areas for both the PCB Design team and for all of engineering.

Essential Functions:

  • Facilitate and/or provide education and training for PCB design guidelines and rules, PCB design techniques and best practices, and ECAD software. These duties may also include the facilitation of IPC CID certification.

  • Keep current with all PCB design technologies, both standard and advanced. Recommend appropriate technologies for applicable PCB layouts. Develop standard layer stack-ups for use of these PCB technologies.

  • Stay up to date with the latest ECAD tool features and improvements. Recommend and advice appropriate tools for design and verification. These duties may also include the implementation and setup of new tools.

  • Keep current with the latest industry standards (i.e. IPC, ASME/ANSI, GD&T) and ensure PCB layouts are being designed to meet these standards.

  • Ensure all PCB layout tasks follow all internal processes, procedures, and best practices. Influence and recommend improvements and changes to these processes. Influence and/or develop new processes for design efficiencies.

  • Attend design reviews to provide feedback and recommend appropriate technologies, design techniques, and best practices.

    Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years years of experience in PCB design, or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience in PCB design. An associates degree in Electrical Engineering Technology and/or an IPC CID certification is desired.

  • Expert knowledge and experience with advanced PCB design technologies and PCB layout techniques is required. Advanced knowledge of PCB fabrication and assembly processes is desired.

  • Advanced skills and experience with Mentor Graphics Xpedition® software is required.

  • Advanced knowledge of IPC industry standards for design and ASME/ANSI for documentation is desired.
