The Road Home Overflow Housing Advocate in Salt Lake City, Utah

The Road Home has been a leader in the fight to end homelessness for almost 100 years (1923-2023). We provide low barrier emergency shelters, supportive services, and housing-first minded rental assistance that helps individuals and families step out of homelessness and back into the community. We are seeking compassionate and empathetic individuals who are interested in making a difference in the lives of others and their community.

Job Summary

As a Housing Advocate, you perform a wide variety of duties relating to working with these vulnerable populations. As a TRH employee you will be a part of a homeless shelter system that provides emergency shelter to over 1,000 individuals nightly, and permanent supportive housing to over 1,700 individuals each day. Working here, you will have an opportunity to assist people who are rebuilding their lives.

Administrative Support Workers

As an Advocate, you will:

  • Provide quality customer service to our clients, who may be in need of resources in addition to a warm bed for a night.

  • Observe, and help regulate activities at the shelter, ensuring rules and procedures are followed.

  • Provide clear and specific information to residents, and instruct residents of shelter rules/procedures.

  • Assist in maintaining a clean and safe facility, identifying special needs, and referring needs to supervisor.

  • Answer phones, take messages, and respond to the public.

  • Operate as part of a team that strives to serve the homeless in our community.

As an Advocate, you will be trained to:

  • Assist in resolving conflicts that may arise among residents.

  • Write incident reports where appropriate, maintain records of resident stays and maintain an accurate shelter log.

  • Provide occasional crisis intervention and emergency interface with community resources such as EMS and law enforcement.

Requirements

Education and Experience

High School Diploma or GED required.

Physical and Equipment Requirements

Ability to lift 25 pounds

Ability to move and/or walk for an hour or more at a time
