State of Utah - Jobs Regional Haze Coordinator in SALT LAKE CITY, Utah

The Department of Environmental Quality is looking to fill an Environmental Scientist III position in the Division of Air Quality. This position may be filled at any of the advertised levels listed below. Salary depends on experience and the job level offered within the series.  Job Description

  • Manage and coordinate the development of State Implementation Plans that meet the requirements of the Clean Air Act,federal regulations,and state statute and rule and demonstrate attainment of the national air quality standards and visibility standards.    
  • Work with both internal and external stakeholders,to communicate Utah s unique air quality planning challenges and the state s technical,legal,and administrative requirements and limitations to address them.
  • Conduct cost/benefit analysis and policy analysis of potential air quality controls and strategies for all sources of pollution and write administrative rules to address emissions.

*Ideal Candidate * The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Experience developing long-range environmental (or similar) plans.
  • Project management skills.
  • Understanding of air quality emissions inventories,air quality modeling,air monitoring,air quality permitting,and environmental engineering practices.
  • Ability to gather and analyze scientific data,draw supporting conclusions,and present that information to peers and the public.
  • Ability to communicate complicated concepts and issues to a wide range of audiences.
  •  A team player with the ability to work in high conflict situations with professionalism and tact.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Ability to problem solve independently.

Preferences

  • A Bachelor s degree in Environmental Science,Meteorology,Biology,Chemistry or similar science degree,including advanced degrees or Public Policy.
  • OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and paid professional employment directly related to the above tasks.

Job Series The selected candidate for this position may be brought in as an Environmental Scientist I with a salary range of $24.65 - $37.02,an Environmental Scientist II with a salary range of $29.00 - $43.57 per hour,or an Environmental Scientist III with a salary range of $34.13 - $51.28 per hour. Work Location This position may be eligible for remote or hybrid/flexible work schedule after an initial training period. Our office is located 195 North 1950 West,Salt Lake City,Utah. A position's eligibility for remote work is established by agency management and is subject to change at their discretion at any time and for any reason.  Note: Under Administrative Rule R13-4 all work must be performed within the State of Utah. As such employees should either reside in Utah or be in the process of relocating to within 30 days of their start date.
