City of San Antonio Assistant City Attorney - Litigation in SAN ANTONIO, Texas

Job Summary

Under general direction, performs complex legal work or litigation. Working conditions are primarily in an office environment. May assist with the supervision of a division in the Legal Department.

This position is an "unclassified" position and has no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal Civil Service Commission. This position is likewise subject to at-will employment status and can be terminated at any time for any reason.

This advertisement will be used to fill one of the following Assistant City Attorney positions:

  • Assistant City Attorney I: Salary starts at $70,666.96 annually
  • Assistant City Attorney II: Salary starts at $77,910.30 annually

Work Location International Center, 203 S St Mary's San Antonio, TX 78205

Work Schedule 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., Monday - Friday

Job Requirements for Assistant City Attorney I:

  • L.L.B. or J.D. Degree from an accredited school of law.
  • Licensed and in good standing to practice law in the State of Texas.
  • No substitution for education allowed.
  • Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.

Job Requirements for Assistant City Attorney II:

  • L.L.B. or J.D. Degree from an accredited school of law.
  • Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience as a practicing Attorney.
  • Years of full time municipal law experience may be substituted two (2) for one (1), up to a maximum of four years credit.
  • Licensed and in good standing to practice law in the State of Texas.
  • No substitution for education allowed.
  • Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.

Additional Requirement:

  • Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position: Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A and B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and Family Violence Convictions.

*Preferred Qualifications*

  • Knowledge of Texas Civil Law.
  • Experience in all aspects of civil trial work.
  • Experience in negotiation techniques and strategies.
  • Experience representing the City in all aspects of trial work including pre-trial discovery, motions, trial preparations, mediations, and trails.
  • Experience in researching, analyzing, and interpreting Municipal Service Rules, Administrative Directives, and all other city policies and procedure governing city employment.
