Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer (ME)

Department: Manufacturing Engineering

Reports To: Manufacturing Engineering Manager

Direct Reports: ME Fabricator

Status: Onsite Exempt

Job Summary:

Manufacturing Engineer will support the ME Department through the creation, and maintenance of engineering systems, that will ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of Reyes Automotive Group. The ME is responsible for leading, developing, and implementing initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, reduce waste, and continuously improve processes across our organization. This role plays a pivotal part in driving a culture of continuous improvement, problem-solving, and innovation. The ME is also responsible for supporting all the activities related to the launch of new model tools.

Main Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned)

  • Use Lean principles and statistical tools to analyze existing manufacturing processes and identify opportunities for improvement, cost reduction, optimization, and reduce waste (muda).
  • Lead, participate and audit continuous improvement initiatives, such as Kaizen Events, to drive operational excellence and innovation.
  • Be able to lead and develop ME interns through strong leadership and training and direct their talent towards specific areas through kaizen activity.
  • Track progress of projects and tasks, including ME Interns and CI Fabricator, daily/weekly.
  • Supervise performance and attendance of direct reports, providing guidance and coaching as needed.
  • Develop, maintain and audit manufacturing documentation, including standard work instructions (SWIs) and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Coordinate 5S Program and implement 5S activities as needed.
  • Develop manufacturing and production processes to reduce production cost and improve overall equipment efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain building layout using CAD software.
  • Design, develop, and test new tools, equipment, and production methods to improve OEE.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop, implement, and improve manufacturing processes, procedures, and systems.
  • Maintain and support Employee Suggestion Program and promote CI culture on the floor.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track and evaluate manufacturing performance, identify trends, and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Launch activities, including pre-launch documentation, trials at tool shop and tracking of open items.
  • Trial Coordinator, responsible for preparing, conducting trial activity, and post-trial activity such as PFS updates and follow-up.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments for new manufacturing projects.
  • Conduct meetings with management for status project reviews.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in manufacturing engineering.
  • Support ME management with daily tasks.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:Education:

  • Bachelors degree in industrial, Manufacturing, or Mechanical Engineering from a 4 year accredited university.

Experience:

  • External applicants: 1-3 years of related experience in manufacturing including internships.
  • Internal applicants: Minimum of 6 months as an intern in any department.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Lean Six Sigma certification, preferred.

Computer Skills:

  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel (including Macros) and PowerPoint and in the use of e-mail, web browser applications.

Mathematical Abilities:

  • Intermediate-advanced math skills.

Analytical or Reasoning Abilities:

  • Strong analytical, planning skills and critical thinking ability required with orientation for continuous improvement.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to prepare reports and business correspondence.
  • Demonstrate problem solving skills using 8D or similar format.

Communication Skills: (Writing, Foreign Language, Reasoning) Ability to read, write and speak English. Highly effective, articulate communication skills (verbal and written) with strong interpersonal effectiveness and the ability to work with all levels in the organization and across cultures. Bilingual in Spanish/English is preferred.

Other Skills (Technical, or Other special knowledge and abilities) Effectively blend existing methodologies with innovative solutions to resolve production challenges economically and promptly. Knowledge of Toyota Production System, preferred. Flexibility in dealing with a variety of multiple projects and demands :::
