Microsoft Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) is the team behind the cloud. CO+I is responsible for delivering over 200 Microsoft web portals, Live and Online Services around the world including infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability. We are looking for a Senior Technical Program Manager - Datacenters to help build the network that powers the world’s largest online services.

The Senior Technical Program Manager - Datacenters ensures technical due diligence compliance for leased Datacenters. Working closely with Data Center Engineering (DCE), the role will evaluate design feasibility, clarify DCE qualification requirements, and standardize processes. The role also assesses technical risks, resolves issues swiftly to reduce business impact, and establishes a robust technical assessment process for new leases and retrofits on existing sites.

This position will oversee the lease technical due diligence program, offering leadership, technical guidance, and decision-making. It also involves evaluating the conversion of Air-cooled datacenters to Liquid-cooled ones, considering feasibility, costs, scheduling, risks, and site limitations. The Senior Technical Program Manager - Datacenters will enhance program efficiency through process improvements affecting related (Objective and Key Result) OKRs.

The Senior Technical Program Manager - Datacenters needs communication and organizational skills as well as the ability to work independently with knowledge in datacenter design, engineering, controls, and operations, and experience in project/construction management as well as the datacenter lease market.

Responsibilities

  • Own Liquid cooling datacenter infrastructure technical assessment for new leases and as well as retrofits on existing leased sites.

  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for site due diligence technical requirements.

  • Own the successful delivery of your organization’s OKRs (Objective and Key Results) related technical compliance.

  • Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for project delivery delays due to technical scope gaps and drive deployment of solutions that can be socialized globally across lease projects.

  • Facilitate decision-making to drive solutions and apply influence, strategies to identify options and recommend solutions.

  • Applying a ‘growth-mindset’ philosophy to the day-to-day tasks and ensuring that any deficiencies identified within the processes/framework are addressed and improvements are implemented.

  • Bridge the gap between Data Center Engineering (DCE), the Lessor, and the lease team.

  • Act as a single point of contact representing the lease team for due diligence technical compliance.

  • Report project progress, risk matrix, delays, root causes and mitigations as required.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 4+ years experience in engineering, construction, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 3+ years experience with mission critical environments such as datacenters.

  • 2+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check : This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in engineering and technical program management.

  • 6+ years of experience managing cross functional and/or cross-team projects.

  • Experience in High Performance Computing deployment in datacenters.

  • Proven collaborator, working closely with multiple teams and subject matter experts.

  • Experience leading complex negotiations/initiatives to successful completion.

  • Analytical, creative thinking, and communications skills especially in complex situations.

Technical Program Management IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
