What You Will DoThe chaplain resident provides spiritual care to patients and families under the supervision by an ACPE Certified Educator while fulfilling the ACPE certified Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program requirements as an advanced beginner chaplain.

Full-Time Temporary position (52 weeks)

Residency start date: August 22, 2022Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • Enrollment in or degree from a theological school recognized by the Association of Theological Schools or equivalent

  • At least 6 months experience in healthcare or ministry

  • Completion of one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree of Divinity.

  • Prior ministry work and healthcare involvement.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must have sensitivity to diverse religious, spiritual, and cultural practices and values.

  • Strong interpersonal relationship skills, including organization, written, and oral communication skills.

  • Demonstrate basic computer skills, including competency in Microsoft word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Able to be open, flexible, self-reflective, and able to learn while providing spiritual support to others dealing with life threatening situations.

  • Able to learn from small group interactive process, including the ability to give and receive feedback.

  • Able to work effectively as an interprofessional team member and a team member within the Spiritual Care and Education Department.

Essential Functions

  • Clinical staff supportProvide emotional and spiritual support to hospital staff and physicians.

  • Clinical supportProvide spiritual care to patients and families, including spiritual assessment, planning, support, and crisis intervention within assigned clinical areas of the hospital.

  • Communication and teamworkEnsure clear written and verbal communication with healthcare team, including handoffs.

  • DocumentationDocument visits/interventions accurately and timely per department guidelines.

  • Facilitates meetingsLead services and educational presentations for patients, families, and staff. Lead patient Spirituality Groups and Interfaith Meditation in the behavioral health setting.

  • Program educationProvide weekly reporting of learning progress. Fulfills the ACPE CPE program requirements, including, but not limited to, those outlined in the CPE handbook and the appropriate Level I and Level II ACPE CPE Outcomes.
