Summary
Join our Elevator Support Unit (ESU) team! We are currently looking for a Project Engineer. This role will require developing relationships with government personnel, Material vendors and Contractors that involves close communication via phone conversation, face-to-face meetings and written communication. Official communications will be via CFR (Condition Found Reports) or government eLAR (electronic Liaison Action Requests). Most communications will be to resolve repair and modernization engineering issues with ongoing or upcoming projects involving weapons elevators, aircraft elevators and vertical package conveyors. Many systems use programmable logic controllers, standard relay controllers and hydraulic, mechanical and electric motor/pump systems for movement of doors, hatches and platforms.
A successful candidate will have the engineering and practical experience necessary to contribute to project activities such as technical manual knowledge, ability to understand system diagrams, component selection, reading schematics, and troubleshooting hydraulic and electrical systems. They will display technical credibility during interactions with both the internal team and external customers and be capable of deriving solutions from set guidance or technical direction from Government officials. The candidate shall also possess a shared sense of responsibility and commitment and ethics for finishing production requirements with teammates. This is a full-time position, located in San Diego, CA.

What You Will Do
Review modernization drawings and As-built drawings to identify production problems, provide material support, prefabrication preparation and resolve issues through CFR and/or eLAR with the appropriate government official to obtain direction.
Observe technical operational problems, on board ship, of the elevator systems, understanding the issue that needs resolution and be able to competently communicate the issue and provide confident suggested resolution using CFR and/or eLAR.
Troubleshoot and resolve problems using the assistance and working with ESU mechanics and electricians. Using these opportunities to teach and mentor the Team and Ships personnel in troubleshooting method.
Research Technical manuals, drawings and manufactures documentation to resolve material and operational issues.
Track and organize certain materials used repeatedly in the elevator systems.
Support Standard Operating Tests conducted by SWRMC and testing to support general repairs and modernization projects. In some cases, this may require developing the test and test forms to document results.
Provide Technical Engineering input for ESU contract proposals developed by the Management Team to support ESU in its mission.
Be a leader in ESU ethics and business conduct culture, ESU has strong ethical values and this position positively influences the Team in the company culture.
Support and help with Quality Control requirements and documentation during the development of work packages.
What You Must Have
9 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 7 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; or 4 years relevant experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field.
Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.
Must have the ability to work within a multi-discipline team environment.
Must have the ability to analyze complex functions, procedures, and problems to find creative, logical, and effective solutions.
Must have experience with the following:
Hydraulic systems.
Motor driven control systems.
Motor driven mechanical systems.
Ability to read electrical and hydraulic schematics.
Ability to read and understand Technical Manuals for complex systems.
General Knowledge of Navy and Government communication systems.
Hands on knowledge of US Navy ships.
Use of standard electrical test equipment including, but not limited to multi-meters, Tachometers, thermometer, ammeters etc.
Familiarity with quality requirements of technical work packages.
Ability to track through design and production processes.
Preferred: Bonus Points For
A current, active DoD Secret security clearance or higher.
Experience with the following design elements:
Worked with ACE (aircraft elevator) design systems.
Worked with Weapons Elevator design systems.
Worked with Vertical Package Conveyors design systems.
Worked with Rockwell DeviceNet, ControlNet or EtherNet IP systems.
Worked with motor controllers and associated systems.
Expert troubleshooting motor controllers and/or hydraulic control systems.
Design process oriented and milestone driven.
Ability and desire to mentor/lead technicians and sailors.
Experience interfacing directly with government/customers for requirements, development and progress reporting.
Experience contributing to technical proposal writing, cost estimating and technical risk assessments.
Physical Requirements
Office, industrial or shipboard environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances. Lifting and moving of materials not to exceed the guidelines set for one man lift.
