Amentum Machinist, Maintenance in San Diego, California

Amentum is currently searching for a skilled Maintenance Machinist to support work at FRC ASE San Diego, CA.

The Maintenance Machinist fabricates new and replacement parts in making repairs of mechanical equipment. Work involves most of the following: interpreting written instructions and specifications in accordance with applicable blueprints, technical drawings and schematics, planning and laying out of work, using a variety of machinist's hand tools and precision measuring instruments, setting up and operating analog machines such as lathes, drill press, and analog milling machines. This incumbent is responsible for the safe set up of analog machines for the creation or repair of metallic and non-metallic parts to close tolerances in accordance with specifications or samples provided, making standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, and speed of machines; knowledge of the properties of metals such as: Mild Steel, Stainless Steel, Aluminum and Hardened Steel, selecting proper materials, tooling and equipment required for this work. Fitting and assembling parts into mechanical equipment. Practices good housekeeping, tool control, Foreign Object Damage prevention, and safety at all times and maintain a clean and organized work area at all times. Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Shop environment in which mechanical equipment is operated, is loud and noisy, and some pieces of equipment have exposed moving components, routine lifting up to 50 pounds, regular handling, grasping, kneeling and carrying, and constant use of vision and mental alertness is required.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.

  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Must be able to meet and maintain all base access security requirements.

  • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English.

  • ​Minimum of two (2) years Machinist experience.

  • Ability to independently operate analog machines with minimal to no supervision.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong problem-solving skills

  • Good verbal communication skills.

  • Basic knowledge of maintenance repairs on a variety of equipment.

  • ​Knowledge of Continuous Process Improvement.

  • ​Time management and prioritization skills.

  • ​Ability to read, understand and interpret blueprints, technical drawings and schematics.

  • ​Experience with utilizing precision measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers and gauges.

  • ​Ability to stand for a prolong period of time performing repetitive tasks.

  • ​Ability to lift items up to 50 pounds.
