Responsibilities

Work Schedule:

Outpatient Clinics - Monday through Friday, 8.5-hour shifts between the hours of 6:00am and 5:00pm.

Inpatient Services - Sunday - Saturday, between the hours of 6:00am and 10:00pm (8.5, 9, or 10-hour shifts). For weekend coverage, no more than one weekend (Sat and/or Sun) per month.

Job Specific Position Duties: The duties include, but are not limited to the following:

• Prepare examination rooms prior to patient's arrival.

• Assist with patient check-ins, admissions, discharges, and transfers as directed.

• Check patient's vital signs, to include temperature, respiration, pulse, weight, blood pressure, and pulse oximeter reading.

• Obtain and document patient's current medical history, drug history, chief complaints, allergies and vital signs on the correct form.

• Perform diagnostic procedures when ordered.

• Maintain examination room stock levels and perform routine maintenance of examination rooms.

• Complete lab and x-ray requisitions in accordance with clinic policies.

• Enter demographic data into the computer upon patient check-in; enter diagnosis and departing time when patient is released.

Additional Duties per duty station:

Medical Assistant - DMS NMCSD Military Health Center

• Perform various administrative functions as directed, such as answering telephones and transcribing accurate messages, assisting with patient check-in, assisting with scheduling appointments, placing appointment reminder telephone calls. Administrative duties are in addition to clinical duties. Administrative duties will be no more than 20% of all workloads.

• Perform ECGs

Medical Assistant – DBC NBHC NB San Diego

• Perform various administrative functions as directed, such as answering telephones and transcribing accurate messages, assisting with patient check-in, assisting with scheduling appointments, placing appointment reminder telephone calls. Administrative duties are in addition to clinical duties. Administrative duties will be no more than 20% of all workloads.

Medical Assistant - DMS NMCSD Pediatric/Adolescent Clinic

• Perform venipuncture and administer immunizations.

Medical Assistant – DMS NMCSD Infectious Disease Clinic

• Perform various administrative functions as directed, such as answering telephones, checking messaging system and transcribing accurate messages, assisting with scheduling appointments and placing appointment reminder telephone calls. Administrative duties are in addition to clinical duties.

• Perform venipuncture.

• Maintain inventory of medical and office supplies.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

* Education: HS Diploma or GED Certificate. Graduate from a medical assistant training program accredited by one of the following: Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) of the American Medical Technologists or a formal medical services training program of the United States Armed Forces or be a graduate from a medical assistant program approved for certification by the California Certifying Board for Medical Assistants or Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC) or Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) or Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training (ACCET) or and Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior College (ACCJC).

* Experience: NO prior working experience required. Will accept recent graduates from an approved training institution.

* Certification: n/a

* Life Support Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required.

* Security: Must be able to pass a Government background check and obtain a Government security clearance.

Pay Scale: $23.00/hr - $32.00/hr, to be determined based on qualifications, experience, and location
