Our client, a dynamic and growing organization, is seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to join their finance team on a contract basis. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment, has a keen eye for detail, and is passionate about ensuring payroll accuracy and compliance. The successful candidate will manage full-cycle payroll for a diverse workforce, ensuring timely and accurate compensation while adhering to relevant laws and regulations.

Position Overview:

The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of payroll processing, including managing employee data, handling wage garnishments, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws. You will work closely with HR and finance teams to ensure seamless payroll operations and support employee inquiries regarding compensation and benefits.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Payroll Processing: Manage full-cycle payroll for salaried and hourly employees, ensuring timely and accurate payment of wages, bonuses, and other compensation.

  • Compliance: Ensure payroll is processed in accordance with federal, state, and local laws, including proper tax withholdings, deductions, and overtime payments.

  • Benefit Deductions: Process benefit-related deductions such as health insurance, retirement contributions, and other voluntary benefits.

  • Bonus & Commission Calculations: Process performance-based bonuses, commissions, and other compensation in line with company policies.

  • Wage Garnishments: Accurately handle wage garnishments, child support orders, and other legally required deductions.

  • Payroll Tax Reporting: Prepare and file payroll tax reports, including W-2s, 1099s, and other year-end filings.

  • Expense Reimbursement: Process and review employee expense reports to ensure compliance with company policies and IRS guidelines.

  • Audit & Reporting: Provide payroll data for audits, generate payroll reports, and assist with month-end and year-end financial close processes.

  • System Utilization: Leverage payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Paycom, Workday, or similar) to ensure accurate data management, payroll processing, and reporting.

    Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred but not required.

  • Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of payroll experience, ideally managing both salaried and hourly payrolls.

  • Strong knowledge of payroll tax regulations, wage and hour laws, and compliance requirements.

  • Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency with payroll software (e.g., ADP, Paycom, Workday, or similar) is required.

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including the use of formulas, pivot tables, and VLOOKUPs.

  • Certifications: Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation is a plus but not required.

Soft Skills:

  • Exceptional attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy in data entry and payroll processing.

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally with HR, finance, and other departments.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing work environments.
