Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is looking to add a Principal Electronics Engineer – Comms and Networks OR Senior Principal Electronics Engineer – Comms and Networks to join our team in Rancho Bernardo, CA. This position will be in our Avionics Integration Organization.

The selected candidate will be required to work full-time, on-site at our facility. There is no remote / hybrid / telework available for this position. This position requires the ability to travel up to 25% of the time.

This candidate will be responsible for engineering and integration of RF communication systems on uncrewed air vehicle systems.

Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Research, design, development, integration, and test of a variety of electronic equipment and systems, including RF datalinks, SATCOM, and Communications Networks.

  • Maintaining complex RF communications architectures, systems, circuitry components, and analog and digital computers.

  • Reporting Comms status to Program Managers and IPT Management.

  • Primary Responsible Engineer for complex communications subsystem, supplier technical interface, and focal IPT representative for integration support.

This position will require someone who is a self-starter and who can thrive working in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations while engaged in assignments across multiple engineering disciplines within a collaborative/team setting on all levels of the organization. Qualified candidates should be prepared to research, design, develop, integrate, and test a variety of electronic equipment and systems, including radio and other communications equipment and network systems, circuitry components, analog and digital computers, and control and test equipment.

This position can be filled at either the Principal Electronics Engineer – Comms and Networks level or the Senior Principal Electronics Engineer – Comms and Networks level, depending upon the qualifications below.

Basic Qualifications for Principal Electronics Engineer – Comms and Networks:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 5 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related engineering experience; OR a PhD in a STEM discipline with 0 years of related engineering experience.

  • Experience in the field of RF Communications.

  • Active in-scope, DoD Secret clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance once in position. This TS clearance must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.

  • May require the ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (SAP). This SAP must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.

Basic Qualifications for Senior Principal Electronics Engineer – Comms and Networks:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 8 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 6 years of related engineering experience; OR a PhD in a STEM discipline with 3 years of related engineering experience.

  • Experience in the field of RF Communications.

  • Active in-scope, DoD Secret clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance once in position. This TS clearance must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.

  • May require the ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (SAP). This SAP must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.

Preferred Qualifications for both levels:

  • Active in-scope, DoD Top Secret clearance.

  • RF and digital system design & analysis

  • Antenna theory and operation

  • COMMS Wideband and Narrowband integration and testing. Iridium, Starlink a plus.

  • Strong understanding of networking strategies including SD-WAN

  • Familiar with current network products and technologies such as routers, firewalls, and switches, CML a plus

  • Airborne platform radio integration

  • System Performance Verification

  • Component Qualifications for Flight

  • System Engineering, Requirements Derivation

  • Design documentation:E.g. Visio, Catia, interconnects and rack elevations

Salary Range: $107,300 - $160,900

Salary Range 2: $133,000 - $199,600

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
