Quantum-Si Senior Computational Scientist in San Diego, California

We are looking for a talented computational scientist to join our team to help advance protein sequencing. In this role, you will work closely with wet-lab scientists, software engineers and other computational scientists to solve exciting computational problems in single-molecule protein sequencing. You will help create new applications, automate pipelines and help improve current capabilities.

The ideal candidate will have a deep background in a computational field in science or engineering, have strong knowledge of modern computational libraries, and be able to write optimized code that can be run on distributed environments.

As part of our team, your core responsibilities will be:

  • Develop novel algorithms to analyze raw single-molecule data produced by our next-generation protein sequencing device.

  • Optimize our state-of-the-art computational pipelines to run efficiently and accurately on single molecule sequencing data.

  • Collaborate with internal R&D and Commercial stakeholders to develop customer-facing capabilities that deliver novel insights to biologists working in proteomics.

  • Assist the team in building robust computational infrastructure to enable rapid development and deployment of new software.

Qualifications

Baseline skills/experiences/attributes:

  • Minimum of 3+ years of industry experience in bioinformatics or computational science.

  • PhD in Computer Science, Computational Biology, Statistics, or Applied Math

  • Track record of developing novel computational approaches to solve complex biological sequence problems

  • Strong analytical thinking and practical problem-solving skills, including the ability to break problems into logical subproblems and devise efficient and flexible solutions.

  • Proficiency of Python scientific computing libraries (NumPy, sklearn, etc.)

  • Experience writing performant code in at least one compiled programming language (C++/C, Rust, etc.)

  • Demonstrated use of software engineering best practices like version control, good code structure, and code review.

  • Excellent scientific communication and documentation skills, including data summarization and visualization.

Ideally, you also have these skills/experiences/attributes (but it’s ok if you don’t!):

  • Familiarity with biological sequence alignment and variant calling algorithms.

  • Experience optimizing code to make efficient use of modern CPU architectures.

  • Familiarity with Docker and workflow markup languages (i.e. CWL, NextFlow, etc.)

  • Familiarity with AWS or other cloud computing platforms.

  • Experience packaging, testing, and releasing customer-facing software.

The estimated base salary range for this role based in the United States of America is: $ 150,000- $165,000 Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, level of the position, an individual’s skills, knowledge and abilities, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all full-time employees are eligible for our discretionary bonus program and equity as part of the compensation package.
