This Opportunity

WSP is seeking a Senior Water Resources Civil Engineer to help manage an increasing number of storm water consulting projects in our growing group in San Diego, CA . A bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering, or related engineering field is required, with a minimum of 5 years of design and management experience in water resources or civil design and a professional civil engineering license.

The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about increasing the quality of stormwater through the design and implementation of stormwater management systems that will support the goals and requirements of the municipal, commercial, and industrial NPDES permits. Successful candidates will be energized by our unique group blend of water quality engineers and scientists working together to enhance Southern California’s waterways, as well as the ability to work on both stormwater engineering and monitoring projects.

This position requires you to be based in San Diego, CA with a hybrid work schedule offered. Your Impact

  • Manage stormwater quality projects of varying size, including ensuring that project deliverables are met, quality is upheld, and schedule and budget expectations are adhered to

  • Assist with implementing stormwater monitoring programs as needed and time allows, as well as the individual’s interest level

  • Preparation and oversight of technical studies, construction specifications, plans, and cost estimates

  • Provide technical guidance, oversight, and QA/QC of entry-level and other mid-level engineering staff during engineering design

  • Recruit and supervise junior staff: assign, direct, and evaluate their work, as well as provide mentorship

  • Coordinate and communicate project schedules and staffing requirements with other project managers

  • Maintain relationships with client project managers

  • Support proposal preparation work and technical work scope and cost estimate development

Who You Are

Required Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering (or related field)

  • Current Professional Civil Engineering License, if not professionally licensed in CA, must be committed to getting a CA license within a year

  • 5-7 years of relevant experience in stormwater management and design or civil site design, hydrology, hydraulics, and supporting engineering reports

  • Experience with water quality permitting

  • Proven history of managing moderately complex stormwater or civil site design projects

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully track and meet budgets and schedules

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Ability to work with, mentor, and direct junior engineers, scientists, and technicians

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current CA License preferred

  • Experience in directly supervising or managing staff (or fulfilling a similar leadership role)

  • Knowledge of federal, state (California), and local (Southern California) stormwater permits

  • Preparation of Plans, Specifications, and Estimate (PS&E) packages

  • Experience with projects in all phases between preliminary design phase & construction support

  • Experience with GIS

  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D or MicroStation

  • Experience with HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWMM and other related modeling software

  • Background in water quality monitoring a bonus

Compensation:

Expected Salary (all locations): $93,700 - $154,700

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
