Amazon Sr Optical Metrology Engineer, Hardware - Emerging Optics in San Diego, California

Description

Accurate and precise metrology is a critical component of engineering success. As a Sr. Optical Metrology Engineer you will support the display and optics teams by providing and developing test methods, specifications, lab equipment, and lab software. You will work on display and LED components in various consumer electronics during both engineering and production phases.

Key job responsibilities

In this role, you will:

• Design and build test setups to characterize optical parameters such as radiant distribution, MTF, contrast, and CIE.

• Develop automated test systems including instrument control, data acquisition, results analysis, and reporting using MATLAB and other software languages.

• Own/maintain/calibrate optical and electrical test equipment.

• Troubleshoot hardware, software, and configuration issues in test fixtures, prototypes, and production products using various lab test equipment.

• Collect and analyze data to produce reports and recommendations for cross-functional teams.

• Generate specification and procedural documents.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in physical sciences/engineering or related field

  • 3+ years of technical work in optical metrology or similar testing and characterization role

  • Experience with hands-on test, debugging, and calibration of optical and electronic devices and instrumentation

  • Experience with commonly used optical metrology instruments such as power meter, interferometer, spectrometer, polarimeters, colorimeter, scatterometer

  • Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in physical sciences/engineering or related field

  • Experience with at least one standard optical design software such as Zemax, Code V, TracePro

  • Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, or other common lab programming language

  • Familiarity with LED, LCD, OLED and/or reflective display technology

  • Experience with consumer electronics mass production and working with CM/OEM/ODM vendors

  • Experience with machine vision techniques and metrics w.r.t. inspection and metrology

  • Experience with photometry/color science/human vision

  • Experience working, communicating, and collaborating in a cross-functional team environment

  • Proficiency in data and statistical analysis

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Self-motivated and self-directed individual, with little supervision necessary

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $128,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $213,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
