The Position

Under the direction of the department supervisor, provide academic tutoring services to a variety of individuals and groups; create and implement tutorial programs that guide and assist students with homework, problem solving, report writing and test preparation; provide proactive and ongoing student retention services to students needing assistance.

Major Responsibilities

TYPICAL DUTIES INCLUDE :

Provide academic tutoring at an advanced level to a variety of individuals and groups.

Create and implement tutorial programs that guide and assist students.

Provide proactive and ongoing student retention services to students needing assistance.

Conduct supplemental instruction sessions.

Coordinate and schedule the activities of assigned personnel and oversee the completion of tasks.

Evaluate student needs and develop appropriate course of action.

Administer tests and consult with educational departments and instructors.

Draft materials and handouts to be used within an assigned instructional session.

Maintain records and data to monitor and assess students’ progress.

Provide clerical support to staff as needed.

Qualifications

REQUISITE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES INCLUDE :

Knowledge of a variety of academic or vocational subject areas; correct English usage, spelling, grammar, punctuation and vocabulary; basic arithmetic; general needs and behavior of students of various ethnic, racial and cultural backgrounds; instructional methods and techniques. Ability to provide tutoring at an advanced level; conduct supplemental instruction sessions and oversee the activities and tasks of assigned personnel. Completion of the twelfth grade in addition to a minimum of a 3.0 GPA with the assigned educational specialty area. Increasingly responsible tutoring experience and advanced subject matter expertise in a variety of subject areas.

| SELECTED CANDIDATE IS REQUIRED TO COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT :

Provide a Certificate of Tuberculosis Exam for initial appointment (Note: The certificate must be renewed every 4 years as a condition of continuing employment);

Have fingerprints taken by a Live Scan computer at the district’s expense (Clearance must be received prior to first day of employment); AND

Present original documents for proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
