Job Title: Data Center Technician (Short-Term Contractor)

Job Description:

Cisco ThousandEyes is seeking a Data Center Technician for a short-term contractor role to assist with the setup of network and server equipment in a data center lab located in San Jose, CA . This is a two-week, onsite position requiring no more than 80 hours of work over weekdays . The technician will follow detailed instructions from a remote team managing the lab environment and must provide clear communication on their progress.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Racking and Stacking Equipment: Install and organize network and server equipment in the lab.

  • Cabling and Cable Management: Manage and install twisted pair Ethernet (CAT6), fiber optic cables, and SFPs, ensuring neat and efficient cable management.

  • Server BIOS Configuration: Configure BIOS settings, including boot order and necessary parameters.

  • Operating System Installation: Install and configure OS like Linux and VMware ESXi on lab servers.

  • Network Configuration: Apply basic network concepts, such as IP address management, subnetting, DHCP, and gateways.

  • Network Diagnostics and Troubleshooting: Use CLI, ping, traceroute, packet capture, and Wireshark for diagnostics and troubleshooting.

  • Basic Server Hardware Troubleshooting: Diagnose and replace faulty components such as disks, memory, and power supplies.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in racking/stacking, cabling, BIOS configuration, OS installation, and basic server hardware troubleshooting.

  • Networking Knowledge: Solid understanding of basic networking concepts (IP addressing, subnetting, DHCP, gateways) and tools like CLI, ping, traceroute, and Wireshark.

  • Physical Ability: Able to lift and move equipment as needed for setup.

  • Attention to Detail: Strong organizational skills, especially in cable management and equipment arrangement.

  • Communication: Clear written and verbal communication skills; able to follow detailed instructions and provide updates on work status.

  • Experience: Experience in data center or similar environments is preferred but not required.

  • Certifications: Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or Cisco CCNA are a plus.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with content management through SharePoint.

  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite or Canva for content design.

  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and handle both internal and external communications.

This role is ideal for someone looking for a short-term opportunity to utilize their technical and communication skills in a data center environment.

Pay Details: $57.00 per hour
