Summary This position is located in the Operations Shop at the Facilities Management Service at the San Francisco VA Medical Center. The primary responsibility of this position is the operation and maintenance of the METASYS Energy Management System, a Johnson Controls' proprietary software. The incumbent will also troubleshoot, repair, modify, calibrate, and install Direct Digital Controls (DDC), and electronic and pneumatic controls. Responsibilities Perform installation, maintenance, repair, modification, and in some cases, fabrication of the highly diverse and very sophisticated control equipment, making up the components, assemblies and systems of the EMCS. Applies detailed knowledge of these components, assemblies, and systems to bypass (when necessary) certain components to the major portion of the EMCS system operational while performing the installation, repair, modification, or fabrication of some portion of the system. Knowledge of electronic solid state circuitry, the application of maintenance and troubleshooting techniques on varied devices, such as state of the art measurement techniques, optical, mechanical, electric and pneumatic devices and various types of self contained calibration systems is required. Working on systems that use state of the art microprocessors, VLSI or ASIC controlled, integrated circuitry, which is constantly undergoing technological changes. Utilize electronics engineering technology to update "as-built" or "as-installed" drawings, troubleshoot a system problem, or evaluate system performance. Independent judgment and decisions regarding the method and procedures to be used to achieve desired results; may involve adapting use of test equipment, or developing new test equipment, modifying equipment operation or improvising techniques. Provides technical guidance and assistance to other journeyman or lower graded mechanics. Other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: 8:00am-4:30pm. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Frequently handles objects weighing 45 pounds, but occasionally carries objects weighing more than 45 pounds for considerable distance. The incumbent is required to push, pull, reach, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and work in cramped spaces over and under machinery of all types for sustained period of time. The incumbent must use proper lifting and transporting techniques when working with heavy equipment. Work is performed in mechanical spaces throughout the facility; the incumbent may be called upon to work in patient rooms, intensive care units, laboratories, rooftops, basements, etc. Floors sometimes are uneven, oily, and slippery. Occasionally, work maybe performed in very cold, hot, or unventilated areas. Outside work is performed in all types of weather conditions. Occasionally, the incumbent will climb ladders, and he/she will work from high places. Work may be performed in possibly infectious and radioactively areas or equipment. Standard safety and inspection control procedures and precautions are required to operate within the work environment. Occasionally, works in areas and on equipment may result in exposure to airborne asbestos fibers. The incumbent will be trained and required to wear proper protective equipment.
