POSITION OVERVIEW

We are currently seeking a dynamic and passionate Music Teacher to join our Lower school community on a maternity cover basis, starting in August 2024 through mid-December 2024 with the possibility of additional time . This position is specifically for teaching music to students in grades 1 to 5, and the ideal candidate must be proficient or fluent in French.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement engaging music lessons for students in grades 1 to 5, incorporating a variety of teaching strategies to cater to diverse learning styles.

  • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that fosters creativity, self-expression, and a love for music among students.

  • Teach fundamental music concepts such as rhythm, melody, harmony, and music notation.

  • Instruct students in playing a variety of musical instruments, including recorders, xylophones, and other age-appropriate instruments.

  • Lead students in choral activities, helping them develop their vocal skills and fostering a sense of teamwork and musical appreciation.

  • Assess and evaluate students' musical progress through regular observations and feedback. 

  • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding students' musical development and progress.

  • Attend regular meetings as needed

  • Successfully complete other professional responsibilities as assigned by the Lower School Principal

  • Actively supervise students during class time as well as during lunch time, transition times and recess times 

  • Develop a positive relationship with each child and promote the development of autonomy, self-esteem, and self-discipline

  • Establish a positive relationship with all members of our school community 

    SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor's degree in Music Education or a relevant experience.

  • Teaching certification or licensure in Music Education preferable.

  • Experience teaching music to elementary school students, preferably in the specified grade range.

  • Proficiency or fluency in French, with the ability to instruct and communicate effectively in both French and English.

  • Strong knowledge of music theory, instrumental techniques, and choral instruction.

  • Demonstrated ability to engage and inspire students through creative and innovative teaching methods.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.

  • Strong organizational skills to plan and execute units of learning.

  • Ability to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment that addresses the diverse needs of students.

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

  • Bilingual in French/English a plus

    Salary range from $66,062 to $101,567 depending on experience and qualification.
