Disney Streaming’s Growth and Commerce org is looking for engineers to join a new Quality Innovations Engineering team! We are spinning up a new team to focus on engineering support for testing across our platform, both at a microservice level and an ecosystem level. We are looking to elevate our ability to test complicated scenarios across multiple services, emulate real production customers, and provide tooling/frameworks to others to make scenario based testing easy and simple.

The overall mission - provide engineering and development support to our QA team and application development teams, to expand our testing capabilities and take them to the next level.

The impact you’ll make - you’ll help identify and prevent production issues for our Disney+, ESPN, and Hulu streaming applications! We’ll be able to launch new initiatives faster, and reduce the amount of time from discovery to fix for issues thanks to you. You’ll also help to bootstrap and define a new team - there’s a lot of potential for creative endeavors we can tackle and the direction we go!

What kind of problems will you help solve?

  • Testing and validating runtime changes from our product operations personnel/UI, such as adding/changing new products and offers

  • Helping dev and QA teams easily simulate complicated billing/subscriptions scenarios to run through a test

  • Emulating scenarios typically only seen in production

  • Copying/sanitizing data from production to testing environments

  • Anomaly detection - identifying if a release or change negatively impacts a previous baseline. ex: our credit card auth rate is 80%, but upon a release drops down to 60%

  • Supporting a cross-service load testing process and environment

The Senior Automation Engineer is the point person in review sessions of business requirements, technical requirements, and design documents to ensure that software changes are understood to facilitate test automation strategy for initiative (i.e. collaboration with engineering on necessary hooks, metrics, quality gates, and coverage). An intermediate understanding of the application or service under test in order to implement a unified test automation approach across platforms / applications. Requires an understanding of SDLC methodologies and applications. They are expected to design functional and specifications for individual deliverables to the broader team. You will work with other QA Analysts and Engineers to ensure system reliability, performance, quality and work independently with moderate level of guidance in most semi-complex situations.

What You Will Do

  • Build tests that are atomic, independent and can run in parallel across multiple browsers / devices in multiple locales and/or languages

  • Mentor / coach junior members of the department as well as individuals interested in automation.

  • Efficiently resolve engineering issues with moderate to high degrees of complexity.

  • Work with other QA Analysts and Engineers to ensure overall system reliability, performance, and quality

  • Attending sessions to understand business requirements, technical requirements, and design documents regarding software changes to facilitate test automation strategy.

What You Will Bring

  • Minimum of 5+ years of relevant test automation experience.

  • Expert proficiency in Java and/or C#.

  • Strong experience using Automation Testing Framework (i.e. Appium, Selenium, etc)

  • Experience with Maven, TestNG and other related Test Automation technologies.

  • Does extremely well with communication, mentorship and collaboration skills as well as having a strong teamwork ethic, while striving for perfection.

  • Understanding of CI/CD (such as Jenkins)

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5-9 years experience working with various test automation roles or equivalent experience as well as a comprehensive knowledge of digital streaming devices and industry trends.

  • Strong analytical and design fundamentals.

  • Strong experience with various Test Automation technologies (i.e. Appium, Selenium, Infrastructure and Reporting) and ability to pick up new technologies on the fly.

  • Ability to write tests outside of the standard UI/API levels.

  • Ability to collaborate and contribute to the core Testing Framework’s technology.

  • Ability to help build confidence in Test Automation and to be an advocate for it and Quality.

Required Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience.

The hiring range for this position in California is $149,000-$199,800 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
