Nutanix Senior Member of Technical Staff- Platform Software QA in San Jose, California

The Opportunity

We are seeking a talented and experienced engineer who can drive high-quality standards for software features and products developed within the Nutanix Platform organization. You have a QA mindset and will contribute to defining and executing an effective overall QA strategy for the team. The ideal candidate will have excellent programming skills and a proven track record of designing and implementing automated tests for testing enterprise software, operating systems, hardware, storage, or networking solutions. As part of a small and supportive team, you will have the opportunity to become a subject matter expert and own testing of core components of the hardware platform, validating their function, compatibility, and reliability across critical layers of the product.

About the Team

The Platform Software QA team at Nutanix consists of 3 team members, including the hiring manager, all located in the vibrant SF Bay Area. The team’s culture is described as small but supportive, with members working independently or collaboratively on assigned deliverables or focus areas. They also engage in cross-functional collaboration with other teams within the organization, fostering a dynamic and cohesive work environment.

You will report to the Staff Engineer within the Platform Software QA team. This role is hybrid, based in our San Jose headquarters, where you will be expected to be in the office 2-3 days per week. This setup allows for a balance of in-person collaboration and remote work flexibility, ensuring team connectivity and productivity.

There are no travel requirements for this role, providing a stable and predictable work environment for the successful candidate.

Your Role

  • Own QA planning, test development, and test execution of new or existing platform software features

  • Build and maintain diverse test environments to ensure feature compatibility across supported hardware platforms and configurations

  • Create and execute comprehensive regression test plans to validate ongoing feature quality

  • Participate in feature design reviews and provide input on areas such as user experience and testing requirements

  • Develop detailed manual and automated tests to validate feature specifications and customer use cases

  • Work closely with the software development teams and hardware partners to analyze test failures and customer-found defects

  • Become a subject matter expert in platform software features and new hardware technologies

  • Mentor new QA engineers as the team grows and recommend improvements to the QA strategy

What You Will Bring

  • BS or MS in Computer Science or related field

  • 7-12 years of industry experience in a similar role

  • Experience in design and development of test frameworks for enterprise-level software or hardware solutions

  • Experience in test plan design and test case development

  • Good understanding of x86 server architectures, storage, networking, and operating systems

  • Solid understanding of Linux operating systems and hardware-related sub-systems

  • Strong knowledge of Python or other scripting languages

  • Experience using virtualization technologies such as VMware, Hyper-V, or KVM is a plus

  • Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills

  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between USD $ 148,000 and USD $ 296,400 per year.

However, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
