Position Description
TheDepartment of Theatre & Dance (https://www.theatreanddance.txst.edu/) at Texas State University invites applicants for a teacher and supervisor position in the area of Sound Technology & Design. The position is at the academic rankofAssistant or Associate Professor of Instructionand is an annual 9-month contract. The new hire will join a dynamic faculty and internationally acclaimed program recently recognized among the top 25 drama programs in the world. We are dedicated to a collaborative and innovative approach to teaching undergraduate and graduate students that prioritizes contemporary professional standards in all casting, recruitment, classroom, and production environments.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will typically teach up to two courses related to sound design and technology per semester. The majority of the workload will consist of providing sound technology and design support for all theatre productions. This will involve being the faculty designer and/or technician or supervising BFA student designers and technicians on departmental productions in three venues including large musical theatre performances with a live orchestra. The successful candidate will collaborate with the Design, Technology, and Management Area in support of current initiatives and new developments.
Salary is commensurate with qualifications.
Required Qualifications
Required Qualifications for Assistant rank:
· Professional experience in a sound-related field
· Experience with industry-standard audio equipment and design software
Required Qualifications for Associate rank:
· Professional experience in a sound-related field
· Experience with industry-standard audio equipment and design software
· More than five years of full-time effective teaching contributions at the university level in traditional classrooms and/or practical settings
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
· Degree in a sound-related field
· Experience teaching sound design and/or sound technology
· Experience supervising crews for performing arts events
· Experience mentoring student designers
· Professional live event sound design experience
· Experience in live sound engineering
· Demonstrated excellence in collaboration
· Evidence of strong communication and problem-solving skills
