Position Description

TheIngram School of Engineering (https://www.engineering.txstate.edu/) of Texas State University has launched a newMechanical Engineering program (https://www.engineering.txstate.edu/programs/mechanical.html) that incorporates Industry 4.0 tools and technologies throughout the curriculum to prepare students who can design and develop mechanical and thermal systems that are intelligent, interconnected, and integrated with the virtual world and emerging digital infrastructures. Currently, the program seeks to fill a tenure-track position in solid mechanics at the Assistant Professor level to begin Fall 2025.

The successful candidate will be expected to establish an externally funded research program in their areas of expertise, exhibit a strong commitment to student-centered teaching and mentoring at undergraduate and graduate levels, participate in curriculum and program development, and perform university and professional service. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience with Industry 4.0 tools and technologies.

This position is subject to the availability of funds.

Required Qualifications

  • An earned Ph.D. in mechanical engineering or a very closely related discipline.

  • Academic and research background in the field of solid mechanics.

  • Research competence evidenced by publications related to solid mechanics in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings.

  • Demonstrated excellence in communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise with Industry 4.0 tools and technologies.

  • Postdoctoral and/or industrial experience.

  • Record of teaching experience.

  • An ability to work collaboratively with faculty across multiple departments and programs.

  • Knowledge about ABET accreditation procedures and deliverables.

  • Demonstrated experience writing and securing grants and contracts.

  • Expertise in experimental methods in solid mechanics.
