  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.

  • Minimum of seven years non-profit experience, preferably in higher education development, alumni relations or marketing. Relevant experience in client centric, membership or affinity driven programs recognized for effectiveness will also be considered.

  • Demonstrated success in leadership roles are especially important, as the role works directly with University leadership, including the President.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, time management, analytical and administrative skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as a team member; takes initiative; prioritizes, problem-solves, analyzes and summarizes information; detail-oriented with the ability to see the larger picture.

  • Demonstrated ability to strategize, implement and build constituency programs and activities.

  • Strong oral communication skills, including significant experience in public speaking.

  • Experience in planning, organizing and facilitating a wide range of special events.

  • Willingness to travel locally and nationally, and work nights and weekends as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using Raisers Edge or similar development database programs.

  • Experience in marketing and communications, designing, implementing, and administering programs related to alumni engagement, constituent giving, direct marketing, comprehensive fundraising campaigns, and donor relations.

  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving skills with attention to detail, the ability to work with ambiguity, navigate a complex work environment, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • High energy and passion for the mission of the organization.

  • Professional and resourceful style.

  • Master’s or equivalent advanced degree.

Job Description

The Executive Director of Donor Engagement provides leadership and strategic direction in the development, implementation, and management of alumni and constituent engagement through the oversight of donor relations, gift compliance, events, and communications teams within University Advancement. The Executive Director is responsible for creating and leading impactful programs and initiatives that enhance donor giving and foster alumni champions who actively support the University’s mission. Additionally, this position partners with various functions, colleges, and units to improve the alumni and donor experience across the University through strategic engagement, participation, communications, recognition, gift compliance, and stewardship strategies.

The Executive Director is a leader who supports, motivates, and influences others to perform at the highest levels while embracing the mission, vision, and values of our organization. The position directly manages central services teams designed to enhance the donor giving experience and heighten overall University engagement. The Executive Director serves as a key member of the leadership team for Advancement and Alumni Engagement.

Job Duties

  • Provide senior-level support to the Associate Vice President of Donor Engagement.

  • Leverage data, research, and direct constituent feedback to understand donor needs and interests delivering effective engagement opportunities and programs.

  • Recommend meaningful and impactful communication and engagement strategies and programs to generate and steward gifts at all levels, developing quantitative and qualitative measurement systems to evaluate effectiveness and success of externally facing programs and initiatives.

  • Lead donor relations and stewardship efforts; implementing and broad-based recognition and engagement programs targeting various giving levels and special constituency groups (first time, loyal, planned giving, annual, major, and principal).

  • Provide leadership, professional expertise, and direction in the planning and execution of high-quality in-person and virtual events and functions for the Division of University Advancement and Alumni Association.

  • Provide leadership in the planning, development, and direction of comprehensive Division communication strategies; responsible for the communications calendar and overall message of all alumni relations, solicitation, and stewardship materials, including print, electronic communications, web-based information, and social media.

  • Establish and monitor metrics, goals, objectives, strategies, and analysis of results for donor relations, gift compliance, communications, and events.

  • Collaborate with University colleagues to create and maintain pathways for alumni participation and donor engagement that advance the goals of the University.

  • Handle matters that are sensitive, confidential, and require a high level of professionalism.
