Summary:

The Shipping and Receiving Supervisor leads a staff of warehouse and driving operations personnel. This role supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in loading and unloading trucks, verifying, and keeping records on incoming and outgoing shipments, and preparing items for shipment. This position provides hands-on training of warehousing operations, forklift training, and enforces safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Trains warehouse employees on material handling equipment, asset management software, customer service, electronic communication, and warehouse operations.
  • Utilizes transportation management systems and asset management systems ensuring accountability and traceability of in and outbound cargo.
  • Analyzes shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, orders, and other records to determine shipping priorities, work assignments, and shipping methods required to meet shipping and receiving schedules.
  • Manages incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments.
  • Determines personnel requirements, coordinates with trucking companies, and communicates to stakeholders in coordination with the Traffic Manager (vessel offload operations).
  • Determines space requirements and position of shipment in containers and trucks and lays out position of shipment.
  • Determines routing and legal load limits of trucks, according to established schedules and weight limits of state.
  • Quality checks loading operations to ensure compliance with shipping specifications, and seals loaded containers and truck doors.
  • Verifies that material handling equipment has been inspected for defects and notifies maintenance personnel.
  • Maintains vehicle maintenance report and schedules vehicles for service.
  • Directs movement of shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage and work areas.
  • Coordinates with Accounts Payable on weekly and monthly invoices and codes invoices.
  • Trains Shipping and Receiving personnel; educates key personnel and stakeholders on operations.
  • Reviews records of unfilled orders and bills of lading for accuracy.
  • Studies and standardizes processes and procedures to improve efficiency.
  • Provides daily safety meeting with warehouse employees.
  • Performs administrative activities associated with the effective management of department operations.
  • Creates an environment that is focused on safety, training, and respect.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Performs other similar or related duties as requested or assigned.
  • Acquires knowledge of Tridents Environmental and Safety Policies by completing required training programs and performing designated work activities in accordance with training and procedures/work instructions.
  • Notifies designated personnel of any environmental or safety incidents or risks not previously documented, in accordance with Environmental Awareness and/or safety trainings.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or five to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working position with a minimum of 5 years experience while leading teams required.
  • Functional knowledge of asset management software; preferred knowledge of JDE, EAM, and/or SAP.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Forklift Certification required.

Special Training/Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; and able to compute rate, ratio, and per ent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Possess knowledge of warehousing and Inventory systems (bar coding/scanning).

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.

Mental Activities: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to understand English, and utilize teamwork skills. The employee is frequently required to speak English and use decision-making skills. The employee is occasionally required to use interpersonal, customer service, mentoring, problem analysis, training and supervision skills. The employee will be occasionally required to read and write English, perform basic math, use exercise independent judgment, and use discretion.
