Summary
Deliver effective instruction in a safe and conducive learning environment providing student instruction and supervision while a permanent staff member is absent.Guest Teacher Rate of Pay:$110 full day with high school Diploma;$120 full day for a teaching certificate (active or expired);$130 for LPOSD certified retireesParaprofessionals:Paraprofesional I $16.78 hr Paraprofesional II $18.47/hr;
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Guest Teacher:
Follow the lesson plans and carry out the assigned duties left by the permanent teacher
Use appropriate instructional materials adopted by the District for meeting lesson plan objectives.
Use effective instructional strategies to engage students in learning
Be prepared to provide appropriate back-up material for students and/or classes when the lesson plan finishes early
Facilitate student transitions including arrival/dismissal, lunch, recess, and Specials.
Paraprofessional:
- Follows classroom teacher’s direction in providing academic support to individual or groups of students
All Substitutes:
Arrive at the school site at least ½ hour before instruction begins to prepare for the day to include: locating the lesson plan or locating instructions from staff member; finding the locations of restrooms, the teachers’ lounge, the cafeteria, the auditorium, the media center, and the drinking fountains; learn to dial the office from the classroom phone; locate the seating chart; review emergency procedures; etc.
Always check in and check out with the school office staff to obtain instructions, keys, etc.
Leave detailed notes for the returning staff member
Create a classroom environment of respect and rapport that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students, successfully managing student behavior according to school-wide discipline programs
Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities while following prescribed safety regulations
Keep all student information confidential and report any concerns to the appropriate staff member.
Be knowledgeable of, and uphold, all policies pertaining to staff and students as specified in Board policies
Other Duties & Responsibilitiesmay include, but are not limited to:
Proctors state mandated student tests
Provides group recess and/or lunch time supervision when requested
Assist with student arrival/dismissal
Desired Qualifications
ONE of the following:
Associate’s Degree in any field OR
32+ semester credits of higher education OR
Passing score on the Parapro Praxis Assessment Test
For teaching positions an active or expired teaching certificate is preferred, but not required
Ability to effectively communicate with school-age children
Ability to effectively present information to students at a variety of ages and learning levels
