Shelter Supervisor Job Description Job Title: Shelter Supervisor Immediate Supervisor: Case Manager

General Job Description: Responsible for shelter services to include the safety and supervision of shelter participants, shelter property, meals served during your shift, and appropriate processing of in-kind and financial donations during your shift. Must handle requests for participant services by appropriately processing paperwork for potential participants (pre-screen forms) and emergency shelter overnight participants. Requirements: 1) Trustworthy, honest, and team player. 2) Ability to supervise shelter participants with dignity and respect at all times. Must engage participants in positive interactions and troubleshoot problems as they surface. 3) Ability to handle communications with public, donors and volunteers via phone, social media or in person. 4) Ability to operate basic computer functions. 5) Able to maintain confidentiality. 6) Able to supervise sanitary conditions at all times in sleep areas, general areas, and food service areas. 7) Willingness to work flexible hours as needed, and handle emergencies which may occur daily, nightly, or overnight. 8) High School diploma or GED or commitment to obtaining GED while employed. Essential Job Functions: (The fundamental job duties as related to the position, not the person) Function 1. Supervise adult shelter participants and shelter property during designated shift: Shelter Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the activities of the adult shelter participants staying in emergency shelter. Supervisor should maintain a positive shelter environment, encouraging positive interactions that support the success of the participant. Supervisor will use professional and courteous language with participants at all times, including interactions that involve correcting participants for issues such as chores, personal space tidiness, personal hygiene, and poor attitude. Supervisor should limit time in their office, unless they are writing an incident report, checking their work email account, or assisting a participant with a specific issue. Computer use by shelter supervisor should be limited to work responsibilities while on duty. Functions of supervision that should be performed during each shift: Supervisor will be required to initial a check-off sheet in regard to specific shift duties. These shift duties include but are not limited to: 1) Answer Phone and take messages for other staff members as appropriate. 2) Provide clear and accurate information to the public 3) Complete pre-screening forms for potential participants 4) Overseeing volunteer activities when on your shift

Function 2. Oversee meals on your shift. Shelter supervisors will oversee meal distribution, facilitate volunteer groups serving meals on their shift or make meals themselves during their shift. Examples of typical issues the shift supervisor should oversee: Welcoming, assisting with carrying food with participant assistance, engaging and thanking meal service volunteers; troubleshooting issues with them and after meals. Ensure no food is left out inappropriately. Process all leftovers by securely covering with wrap or storage containers and writing the date the food prepared/contents on a label before storing in refrigerator or freezer.

Function 3. Shift supervisor must maintain accurate records that can be easily accessed. Tracking demographic and other statistics such as: 1) Numbers receiving a meal 2) Number of bed nights

Function 4. All employees are expected to maintain a high level of professionalism in performing assigned duties and responsibilities. 1) Provide Back Up services for other staff as needed. 2) Supports the Agency helping philosophy and ensures that all work rules, policies and procedures are adhered to. 3) Employees will not withhold services of food and sleep to any participant as a form of punishment. 4) mployees will not withhold privileges for the group such as television time, movie time, or snack due to the actions of a single participant or group of participants. 5) Exhibits willingness to perform whatever duties are necessary in the development and maintenance of the agency, even if not specifically stated in the job description. 6) Develops effective working relationships with staff and relates to staff, volunteers, participants and others in a friendly professional manner and provides excellent internal and external customer service. 7) Establishes and adjusts daily schedule to maintain efficient work flow. 8) Wears OMI identification at all times. 9) Keeps safety first. 10) Maintains a clean driving record if they drive agency vehicle. Report any work driving infractions immediately. Any personal driving infractions should be reported to your immediate supervisor within 72 hours of receipt. 11) Employees should not take donated items for personal use
