Applied Materials Manager, ALD NPI Procurement in Santa Clara, California

Applied Materials' Global Supply Chain is offering a career growth opportunity for an experienced Senior Manager. This is a full-time, 100% onsite role with Applied, at our Santa Clara, CA office. (This is not a remote or hybrid role.)

This role involves managing the NPI Strategic Sourcing group within one of Applied's Business Units (ALD), which has a specific focus on new product introduction (NPI). The Senior Manager will be responsible for providing leadership and guidance to Materials Projects Managers who are involved in developing and commercializing supply chains for ALD's new products. This includes working closely with engineering teams and Applied's global commodity managers to develop the ALD supply chain strategy. This Senior manager goal will be to ensure speed to market, cost effectiveness, lead time, scalability, and resilience targets are met. This position offers a vibrant, collaborative, and challenging environment with visibility to higher-level management within Applied Materials.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Manage a team of five Material project managers, coach and guide the team for excellence and towards their career development goals.

  • Lead others to solve complex problems and associated risks; uses structured approach as well as sophisticated, analytical thought to exercise judgment and identify innovative solutions.

  • Mentor team members, sharing knowledge and best practices to elevate the overall functional capabilities of the team.

  • Collaborate across the matrix and influence decisions with impact to sourcing strategy, supply chain risk or material cost.

Supply Chain

  • Develop and implement effective supply chain strategy from NPI to High Volume that meets performance requirements and enables Business Unit’s product strategy.

  • Collaborate and negotiate with key suppliers to ensure a reliable and cost-effective supply of materials and components.

  • Proactively identify and communicate potential risks that could impact the continuity of the supply chain to cross-functional teams. Develop and implement comprehensive risk mitigation plans in a timely manner.

  • Establishing and ensuring adherence to best practice policies and procedures.

Program Management

  • Oversee and manage end-to-end semiconductor equipment NPI development programs from Supply Chain perspective.

  • Coordinate with internal teams and external partners to ensure timely delivery, budget adherence, and quality control throughout the NPI project lifecycle.

  • Early identify and resolve potential complications/ risks jeopardizing the program’s targets. Provide fact-based containment options and/ or sustainable solution scenarios to executive stakeholders.

  • Regularly present status updates in executive reviews with your team

Business Expertise

  • Apply broad industry and commercial awareness to drive financial and operational performance across business unit, department, or sub-functions.

  • Create & execute product cost reduction roadmap as well as lead YoY material cost reduction activities for released products to support gross margin goals.

  • Interpret internal/external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes, or services.

Interpersonal Skills

  • Demonstrates a strategic mindset focused on achieving goals and objectives, consistently making a positive impact on the department, business unit, or sub-function.

  • Effectively conveys complex ideas and concepts (problem statement/ “telling the story”), adeptly negotiates and influences the opinions of senior executives and external stakeholders, while remaining aware of the audience's sensitivities.

  • Foster and cultivate strong relationships with suppliers, emphasizing long-term partnerships and collaboration.

Key requirements

  • Proven expertise in program management, supply chain management, and business acumen.

  • Extensive knowledge of various fabrication commodities and processes.

  • Extensive knowledge in supply chain, including but not limited to: supply chain strategy setting, supplier relationship management, make vs buy analysis, cost analysis, LT reduction, risk analysis, capacity analysis.

  • Extensive knowledge and management experience in operations/manufacturing is an advantage.

  • Proven experience in cost negotiation and driving cost reductions plans.

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

  • Experience in working and leading team in an NPI environment.

  • Minimum of 5 years of management experience.

Qualifications

  • Education: BA in engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree plus MBA preferred.

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in semiconductor equipment development, fabrication, and Supply Chain management.

U.S. Salary Range:

$148,000.00 - $203,500.00

The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program, as applicable.

For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
