Job Description

Position Overview

As a Performance Engineer, Operations Engineering you will be our in-house source of technical expertise on the design analysis, inspection, and repair of various major wind turbine mechanical components in order to maximize turbine performance and reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an in-house source of technical expertise on the design, inspection, and repair of various major wind turbine components (e.g. blade, hub, gearbox, coupling, generator, slew bearings, bedplate, tower, foundation, etc.).

  • Revise and improve techniques used for inspecting equipment (visual, audible, borescope, infrared, acoustic emission, ultrasonic, vibration, etc.).

  • Become familiar with equipment repair methods, assist with training of in-house repair teams and provide ongoing technical support.

  • Author detailed inspection and repair procedures, technical bulletins, and operating policy documents.

  • Review critical inspections and provide run / don’t run dispositions as well as monitoring and repair recommendations.

  • Consult with major component repair vendors and coordinate large repair campaigns.  Evaluate new third-party repair vendors for effectiveness.

  • Conduct root cause analysis investigations for major equipment issues and perform in-depth failure rate analysis for major components.

  • Lead pilot projects to evaluate new equipment, tools, or processes.

  • Support the end-of-warranty inspection process at wind farms.

  • Some travel (< 25%) and moderate field work may be required. Travel to the U.S may be required.

    Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an engineering or technical discipline.

  • Three to five year’s work experience.

  • Strong interest and understanding of wind turbine systems.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products and able to quickly acclimate to new software.

  • Familiar with CMS systems and vibration analysis in wind turbines.

  • Familiar with analysis of gearbox borescope reports, main bearing and blade bearing.

  • Familiar with oil and grease analysis.

  • Familiar with analysis of blade inspection reports.

  • Fluent (written and oral) in English.

    Preferred Skills

  • Experience with equipment reliability and work management programs.

  • Experience with wind turbines, fiberglass work, wind turbine blades / airfoils, industrial bearings / gearing, or concrete structural evaluation.
