About the Position

This role performs routine cleaning and daily operational duties, light to heavy physical labor (supplementing the maintenance and upkeep of assigned parks and grounds) and utilizes small tools and minor equipment. Examples of job responsibilities can be found below:

  • Daily general maintenance, minor repairs, cleaning and upkeep of Siesta Beach. This includes daily and deep cleaning, trash removal, litter picking, and other duties associated with upkeep and maintenance.

  • Areas assigned can include, but are not limited to, beaches, picnic areas, parking lots, playgrounds, open areas in/around the park, restroom facilities, open beaches, and buildings.

  • Perform limited and semi-skilled trades work such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical and other skilled trades in facility and park structures.

  • Ensure routine maintenance, inspections (helping to diagnose issues/concerns), and tasks are completed in an efficient timeframe, as assigned.

  • Serve on scheduled programs, events and summer camps (as assigned) via the setup, take down and operation of said events.

  • Provide excellent customer service, answering questions/concerns in a timely manner, and communicating with supervisor appropriate issues/concerns.

  • Maintain visitor safety and protection duties: communicating rules, regulations, and generating compliance within the beach visitors. When necessary, work with supervisors and law enforcement partner on issues/concerns associated with beach violations.

  • Aid Environmental Specialists with duties and tasks for resource management projects.

As part of the supplemental grounds maintenance you must be comfortable to operate and care for small equipment such as: lawn mowers, weed eaters, edgers, leaf blowers, chainsaws, pressure washers, etc.

About the Schedule

Work Hours:

  • Full-Time, 40 hours per week.

  • Must be available Sunday - Saturday, 5:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

  • Hours are typically 1st shift, however, work hours and days are to be determined based upon Division needs.

  • Nights, weekends, and holiday work may be required.

About You

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent education.

  • One year of experience as a semi-skilled laborer in the care and maintenance of parks, landscape, or other similar grounds.

  • Valid Florida Driver's License by date of hire.

Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.

Physical Demands: This position must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Employees can use a handling device (dolly, cart, etc.) or work with another team member to lift and/or move excessive poundage of 50(+) lbs.
