Guthrie Fund Balance Accountant - Finance - Full Time in Sayre, Pennsylvania

Summary

Is responsible for accurate accounting, balance sheet reconciliation, financial reporting, and monitoring compliance for all fund types including philanthropic restricted funds for all the Guthrie entities. Back-up support to the Accounting Manager.

Experience

A minimum of two years of related experience. Proven communication, organizational and analytic skills in an organization. Oracle ERP a plus. Computer skills and a knowledge of Excel and Microsoft Word is a requirement.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting with two years’ related experience; or Associate Degree with five years’ related experience in fund accounting; or a satisfactory combination of education, training, and experience.

Essential Functions

  • Daily coding of all philanthropic/donation receipts into Oracle subledger system

  • Preparation of monthly journal entries recording all related activities of grant and philanthropic funds

  • Preparation of monthly balance sheet reconciliations for all fund types. Monthly net asset roll forward reconciliation and conducting funds analyses.

  • Preparation of monthly financial reporting (both internally and externally) for all funds. Preparation of monthly grant invoices and expenditure reports.

  • Monitor/tracking of grant expenditures to ensure compliance with internal, federal, state, industry and foundational policies governing sponsored research. Maintains award records and documentation relating to sponsored projects

  • Makes prudent, consistent, and independent judgements/decisions regarding compliance with institutional policies and procedures as well as federal and state regulations governing post award grants and contracts.

  • Assists project managers with budget transfers and requests for extensions

  • Preparation of annual audit and 990 reporting of all funds.

  • Assists the Accounting Manager in various duties related to grant and philanthropic functions.

  • Participates in the Quality Improvement Process.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
