Classroom Culture and Climate (CCC) Teacher Specialist

Job Description: This person is responsible for fostering a culture of care within classrooms, prioritizing the safety and well-being of both adults and children. Through proactive measures and therapeutic approaches, they will work to prevent and address crisis situations effectively. This includes providing support and coaching to all individuals involved, ensuring a cohesive and supportive environment within the classroom setting. The coach will also provide in-house Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Support (TCIS) training under the direction and guidance of the district office.

Duties and Responsibilities

? Transition planning with district administrators to support implementation of year long goals - as outlined in the our Receivership Continuation Plan (Comprehensive Improvement Plan).

? Work with the Principal (or their designee) to create a system for collecting behavioral/SEL data collection at Tier I, II, and III along with progress monitoring.

? Work with teachers to create a trauma-sensitive environment where children and adults are safe and feel safe

? Work with teachers proactively to create conditions to build a caring classroom community (Baseline conditions)

? Proactively train and provide resources and suggestions to support teachers (and students) when triggering behaviors occur (ex: responses to manage the environment, prompt, provide caring gestures, offer hurdle help, redirect/distract, offer proximity, a directive statement, or time away).

? Model and provide support to teachers/staff for responding to escalating behaviors (Ex; co-regulation, ensuring open lines of communication and preserving the relationship, and being a coach in the moment of escalation).

? Support in the management of acute physical behaviors of students.

? Serve as consult to school based support team in the creation or revision of ICMPs, ISPBs, ISPs and other support plans and teachers through de-escalation lens.

? Work with student support staff and restorative team to align with teaching adaptive emotional regulation skills and coping strategies.

? Ensure consistent communication between student support staff, administration, and teachers regarding student behavior and responses.

? Supporting building in knowing and applying TCIS concepts and strategies

? Build on staff strengths and individual needs

? Utilize adult learning theory to motivate adult learners to improve professional practice

? Attend summer training and other professional development experiences as needed

? Provide professional development for staff in TCIS, the intersection of social emotional learning and the curriculum, and other areas as needed/identified.

Intended Outcomes

? Improve Tier I social emotional outcomes as evidenced by a decrease in formal and informal behavioral referrals.

? Support in the improvement in the culture and climate of the school

? Support and Design in the MTSS system

SMART Goals

? By June of 2024 the CCC Teacher Specialist will support staff in the collection, use, and monitoring of student data to help reduce behavioral referrals.

? By June of 2024 the CCC Teacher Specialist will ensure that staff is collecting, using, and monitoring student behavioral data to help create cultures of care.

? By June of 2024 the CCC Teacher Specialist will utilize data sets to help inform/refine building level professional development.

Evaluation

This person will be evaluated using the same rubric and process as SFT teacher members.

Salary Per SFT Contract

Job Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or certification in Elementary Education K-5, B-5

  • Minimum of 5 years of classroom teaching experience in the PreK-5 setting

  • Proof of tenure

  • Experience in trauma informed practices, de-escalation, restorative practices, and TCIS.

  • TCIS Certified or pending/willing certification
