Ellis Medicine Special Procedure Technologist II - IR/Angio in Schenectady, New York
The Special Procedure Tech performs specific and specialized duties pertaining to diagnostic and interventional imaging procedures as well as CT (if applicable), which require use of independent judgment, initiative, and specialized knowledge of computerized tomography systems. A vast knowledge of cross-sectional and vascular anatomy, percutaneous procedural equipment and abnormal pathology is essential for performing bedside and fluoroscopic interventional procedures. Performed exams include but are not limited to CT biopsies, diagnostic/interventional vascular procedures, para/thoracentesis, and placement/removal of drains/tubes.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT(S):
Graduate of an approved Radiologic Technology education program
ARRT registration required
New York State license of Radiologic Technology required with contrast injection certification or obtain within 6 months of hire
Interventional Radiology experience required
Current Basic Life Support (CPR) certification
Obtain Vascular Interventions (VI) certification within 24 months of hire preferred
Maintain certification throughout employment
Fully trained as a level I special procedure technologist
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION:
1-2+ years Special Procedure Tech I level experience
6 + months of experience of on call team experience
Assists in tasks during vascular procedures
Performs on call rotation and ability to respond to off hour procedure needs
Ability to function in a team environment
Works collaboratively with the other Special Procedure Technologists
Works in conjunction with the department leadership as necessary to handle scheduling or protocol changes.
Able to understand and perform diagnostic/interventional fluoroscopic procedures as well as bedside non-radiographic procedures
(If applicable) performs CT scan studies and special procedures of anatomical areas as ordered/directed, according to established standards and procedures.
Operates all radiographic imaging equipment, per documented competency, associated with Special Procedures, Computed Tomography, including but not limited to monitors, injectors, scanners.
Proficient in scrubbing, monitoring and circulating during procedures.
Adheres to Infection Control standards during invasive procedures to prevent surgical site infections (SSI)
Prepare IV Contrast Power injectors.
Administers Contrast Media under direct supervision of physician or provider with injection certification from NYS DOH as required
Knowledge of cross sectional anatomy, positioning and imaging techniques.
Collaborates with RNs on properly and accurately screening patients for labs, appropriate values and diagnostic imaging
Track, scan, verify studies and complete all required paperwork associated with procedure.
Monitor PACS for Problem Studies and Call Reports.
Work in conjunction with physicians for on-time procedure reports for timely coding & billing. Assign missing dictations through PowerScribe
Collaborate with department Inventory Control Coordinator to order, monitor and track department specific inventory
Develop relations with vendors for support
Assist in staff scheduling process to maintain day to day operations
Work collaboratively with Procedure Charge Entry Specialist to optimize accurate procedure charges and work with billing/coding departments to resolve discrepancies
Act as a preceptor, training new staff members in the various roles of a Special Procedure Technologist
Will assist in performing general Interventional Radiology duties including, but not limited to stocking rooms, organizing procedure rooms, assist with patient care in Pre/Post, rotating stock to identify expirations/reduce waste.
Maintain flexibility in this role to assist the Hybrid/Operating Room with image guided surgery or procedures.
Document on requisition appropriate needed information
Prep patient for diagnostic/interventional imaging exam.
Participate in daily group huddle prior to procedure start
Obtain clear and accurate patient histories for Radiologists and other providers
Provide education to patients regarding procedures.
Utilize lead shielding as necessary for patient and staff.
Rotate shifts as departmental needs require.

Salary Range: $27.52-$41.27 /hour Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
