Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Staff Engineer Software – Technical Product Owner to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located at Schriever Space Force Base, Colorado Spring, CO.

Position Overview:

The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program integrates the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, to see the battle develop collectively, and to dynamically manage designated networked sensors and weapons systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives.

C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability that enables an optimized response to threats of all ranges in all phases of flight. C2BMC is the force multiplier that globally and regionally networks integrate, synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations to optimize performance. C2BMC is integral to all system ground and flight tests, which verify and exercise all current and future missile defense system capabilities.

Essential Functions:

  • The primary role of the Technical Product Owner will be coordinating between technical teams both within the X-Lab and the C2BMC core development teams to advance C2BMC capabilities from prototypes to operational capabilities

  • The selected applicant is expected to advise and coordinate with integrated teams of other systems engineers, software developers, and analysts to develop solutions for integrated and advance missile defense to include regional and global defense scenarios

  • Work closely with X-Lab Agile teams to understand concepts, algorithms, and logging in order to build integrated solutions and prototypes

  • Utilize math, physics, statistics, data parsing, plotting, and database techniques to analyze complex data related to command, control, track state vectors, covariances, and the tasking of EO/IR and RF sensors on experimental and operational software

  • Design, develop, and extend analysis tools in a configuration managed toolbox that is shared across multiple teams and labs

  • Assist X-Lab Engineering Manager and Technical Lead in the definition and development of technology roadmaps and experiment plans

  • Conduct trade studies and course of action development/analysis as directed

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 12 years of related experience or a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 10 years of experience, or a PhD and 8 years of experience; or 16 years' experience in lieu of a degree may be considered.

  • Applicants must have a current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD issued Secret security clearance at the time of application which is required to start; with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI (TS/SCI) security clearance.

  • Ability and willingness to travel up-to 10% to support business needs.

  • Must have experience in missile track processing, modeling and analysis

  • Be able to work both independently and as a task lead and manage and coordinate between team Product Owners

  • Strong math and physics, including probability and statistics, linear algebra, and calculus

  • Must have ability to use programming languages such as JAVA, MATLAB Pyhon, Perl, Bash, Mathematica, JavaScript, etc., to perform prototyping, data visualization, scripting, parsing, and functional programming

  • Fluency in Linux environment and shell scripting (bash, csh)

  • Understand and have experience with basic computer networking concepts (UDP, TCP/IP, network boundaries, firewalls)

  • Be familiar with C2BMC suite architecture and scripted automation tools (Ansible/Kubernetes)

  • Must have experience as a technical task or team lead

  • Must have experience with C2BMC and or ballistic missile defense programs/domains, including Ground Test and Flight Test campaigns

  • Experience with systems engineering and software engineering processes and principles

  • Experience with surveillance and target acquisition, track state estimation and correlation, track-to-truth mapping, state vectors, kinematic modeling, tracking covariances, coordinate conversions, time conversions, and EOIR/RF phenomenology, scheduling and resource management, identification and discrimination, battle management, signal processing, and/or orbital dynamics

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A strong analytical background including Monte Carlo analysis and statistical regression

  • Functional knowledge of modeling languages such as SySML or UML

  • Verification & Validation (V&V) testing of complex software systems

  • Agile software development processes

  • Distributed application environments coded in Java, C++, or other Object-Oriented languages

Salary Range: $155,400 - $233,200

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
