Responsibilities Job Summary The Forensic Nurse Educator reports to the Forensic Nurse Manager and provides expertise as a clinical educator, consultant, facilitator, change agent, leader, and researcher for the HonorHealth forensic nursing program. Supports continued development and growth of the forensic nurse examiner program while fostering empowerment through knowledge to achieve excellence through the delivery of evidenced based nursing practice. Facilitates clinical education through assessment, development, planning, implementation, competency assessment, continuing education, and leadership development in the specialized field of forensic nursing. Creates a professional nursing climate within HonorHealth to meet the global needs of the network and overall profession of forensic nursing. Advocates for forensic nursing practice that is theory and evidenced based and follows the standard practice recommendations of subject matter organizations such as the International Association of Forensic Nursing (IAFN). Works closely with the HonorHealth Center for Clinical Excellence, Research Institute, Academic Affairs, and several community partners. The Performs medical forensic examinations. Travel may be required. Develops and delivers standardized network clinical education for the HonorHealth Forensic Nursing Program and new hire Forensic Nurse Examiners (i.e. clinical academies, preceptor program, maintaining HonorHealth as an approved forensic nursing training site program, forensic nurse new hire orientation). Directs curriculum development including writing program objectives, outcomes, and competency statements. Obtains continuing education approval for clinical education and coursework related to forensic nursing. Selects appropriate learning modality and facilitates the adult learning process creating a climate which supports learning and provides timely and constructive feedback to learners. Identifies and recruits internal and external resources for educational activities Conducts needs assessments using a variety of strategic tools and develops education plans according to initial and ongoing competency validations. Consults with nurse clinicians and leadership regarding individual learning needs, and develops population-based education for development of nurse clinicians while integrating ethical principles in all aspects of practice. Ensures educational programs are congruent with network missions, values and goals and complies with forensic nursing practice standards set by subject matter organizations such as International Association of Forensic Nurses. Incorporates evidence-based practice into all training and educational programs as well as in the development of policies, procedures, and guidelines specific to the medical service-line. Responds to changes in nursing practice and standards of care and develops programs to support those changes. Supports the integration of research into practice and participates in research activities as needed. Seeks to publish or present education research and findings Serving as a resource for forensic nursing clinical policies, procedures, and external agency requirements with collaboration by the Forensic Nurse Manager, HonorHealth Center for Clinical Excellence, Academic Affairs, and the Research Institute. Evaluates learning effectiveness through perceptual feedback tools, knowledge-based testing and skills assessment. Modifies educational opportunities as needed. Performs medical forensic examinations. Qualifications Education Bachelor's Degree Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or Education or relevant clinical area in final year of currently enrolled or related degree Required Experience 4 years experience in an acute care setting as a direct care RN or as clinical faculty in an accredited graduate or post-graduate nursing program or equivalent Required Licenses and Certifications Registered Nurse (RN) State And/Or Compact State Licensure Licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Arizona (or the ability to obtain Arizona License) Required Basic Life Support (BLS) BLS Required 40 hour+ IAFN Course for SANE-A or SANE-P Required Driver License AZDL - Driver License - Valid In State Required
