The Architecture Department has an outstanding opportunity for a Architecture Counseling Services Coordinator to join their team. POSITION PURPOSE

The Department of Architecture in the College of Built Environments (CBE) at the University of Washington recognizes that the creation of a more just and beautiful world requires the application of justice, equity, and inclusion in the sustainable stewardship of the built environment. The primary responsibility of this role is to recruit students and provide prospective student advising through the admission and enrollment process. This includes a focus on increasing the diversity of the student body in both the undergraduate and graduate programs. This is a professional staff position. Some evening and weekend work may be required during peak recruitment and admissions season to meet admissions timelines.

POSITION COMPLEXITIES

This position requires an individual who is especially self-directed, detail-oriented, and has strong communication (written & verbal) and organizational skills. This position also requires an individual with strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, a high level of professionalism, and a passion for helping people and fostering relationships with community partners. This position requires the ability to work under pressure, multitask, and meet deadlines.

POSITION DIMESIONS AND IMPACT TO THE UNIVERSITY

This position will lead in increasing the number of (MArch and MSArch) and undergraduate (BA in Arch Design and BA in Arch Studies) admissions candidates. This individual will work collaboratively with the internal student services coordinators as well as University partners to increase exposure at events. This position supports the college to better manage the undergrad and grad processes and assemble and analyze statistical data to become more reactive in the strategic planning for the program.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES COUNSELING – 25% • Maintain ongoing, thorough knowledge of academic and financial resources to provide comprehensive information that will help prospective undergraduate and graduate students to make informed decisions about their education. • Counsel prospective undergraduate and graduate students about the educational opportunities available within Architecture and the CBE. This includes undergraduate Architecture minors and transfer students. • Attend admissions meetings scheduled by the Office of the Registrar, Undergraduate Academic Affairs, the Graduate School, and International Student Services Office. • Schedule and host quarterly information sessions & tours: virtual and in-person.

ADMISSIONS – 40% • Work with Chair and admissions chairs to coordinate admissions, assign applications for review, update admissions letter templates, send decision letters, respond to applicant emails, and work with Chair on scholarship, recruitment, and funding packages. • Provide regular updates on candidate decisions to the Chair and admissions chairs. • Provide statistical reports to admissions chairs as needed and maintain reports for reference in subsequent admissions cycles.

OUTREACH – 25% • Plan, develop, and implement recruitment strategies which include: on-site and virtual school visits and college fairs; participating in admission workshops and events; and conducting individual admission advising appointments, and group information session and tours. • Develop and regularly update printed and online recruitment materials (summer), including, but not limited to, ASCA’s Study Architecture website. • Update Admissions instructions on website and Graduate School portal as needed (summer). • Partner with CBE Office of Student Services to identify shared recruitment strategies with local high schools, community colleges, and UWT and UWB. • Plan for and attend college fairs, including NOMA Conference, AIAS College Fair, OMAD and UW Admissions events. • Lead the planning and staffing of recruitment events such as preview days, open house events, and orientation.

STATISTICAL REPORTING – 10% • Develop and report on quarterly recruitment efforts at Executive Committee meetings. • Provide annual statistical reports on admissions as required for annual NAAB and Dean’s Office reports. • Use UW BI Portal to access data and generate reports.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree in Recruiting, Counseling, or a related field and three years of experience in similar counseling, admissions, or outreach activities.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Prior experience in a comparable academic setting. • Prior experience in outreach to underserved communities. • Basic experience with Excel or Google Sheets. • Experience with Slate & Slideroom and a desire to learn new applications.
