UW Information Technology (UW-IT) is the central information technology organization for the University of Washington, responsible for strategic planning, oversight, and direction of the UW’s IT infrastructure, resources, and services. UW-IT provides critical technology support to all three campuses, UW Medicine, and research operations around the world. UW-IT partners with the UW community to enable innovation, learning, discovery, and service.

The Strategic Alignment unit within UW-IT Strategy & Business Operations (SBO) aligns information and technology at the UW with strategic business needs. This unit delivers new, expanding programs for information and technology governance, strategy, metrics, and enterprise architecture that are relied on within UW-IT and across IT and business units at the UW.

The Assistant Director of Strategic Alignment will work independently to plan and implement new processes to meet the unit’s rapidly growing responsibilities, identifying and resolving unstructured problems and creating the necessary structure to drive results. This role will plan, direct, and control the unit’s operations across all its programs. The Assistant Director will organize team resources, monitor program performance, and ensure continuous improvement.

The Assistant Director will report to the Executive Director of Strategic Alignment and will represent the Executive Director in planning and delegated decision-making within the Strategic Team, in planning and coordination with other units in SBO and other divisions in UW-IT, and in managing strategic relationships with UW leadership and UW stakeholders. This role will lead and influence positively and effectively by influencing and directing individuals at all levels of the organization without direct supervisory authority.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in information technology management, business administration, or related field or experience.

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in IT organizations, with experience in a leadership capacity such as program manager, project manager, or team lead

  • Progressive experience managing program operations, such as goal setting, planning and estimation of team work, and continuous improvement

  • Demonstrated experience achieving results in a complex, federated organizational environment

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders DESIRED:

  • Prior experience enabling IT governance, strategic planning, metrics, or enterprise architecture

  • Prior experience applying methods for IT service management, project management, business analysis, process improvement, or organizational change management

  • Prior experience translating between IT and business teams and representing business stakeholders in an IT organization

  • Strong listening, negotiation, facilitation, and conflict resolution skills• CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Hybrid, open office environment. Must be available to work on-site at the University of Washington Seattle campus at least two days every week.
