Amazon Business Intel Engineer III, Seller Insights & Planning in Seattle, Washington

The Seller Insights and Planning team’s mission is to make FBA the best place for sellers to both thrive and delight customers. We achieve this through identifying opportunities to address seller pain points, optimizing our services to reduce seller effort, eliminating the defects that lead to seller costs, and orchestrating initiatives across business, technology and operations that simplify the seller experience.

In this role as a Business Intelligence Engineer III, you’ll be part of a new team being stood up with a mission to provide source-of-truth metrics measuring the performance of all FBA regional stores worldwide as part of Amazon’s Worldwide FBA business. This role will take the lead in designing how data should be structured to achieve high availability and performance across concurrent users distributed internationally within a new data lake. This role involves tackling complex, ambiguous problems and validating that those solutions align with long-term architecture requirements. As a successful candidate in this role, you'll work with teams to design data tables that serve data fast at any granularity required by product, engineering, and business users. This role will shape how we can provide accessible information to teams worldwide while also designing schemas that limit confidential information to the right audiences. With a deep understanding of data lineage and how business intelligence is generated, aggregated, and used, you will drive insightful discussions with stakeholders, anticipating and shaping future requirements. You'll lead large projects, manage cross-functional teams, and ensure BI solutions are accurate, timely, and actionable. This role will also require you to improve system capabilities, advocate for necessary technology investments, and simplify processes.

Key job responsibilities

Design and implement robust data models that can effectively handle large volumes (such as daily storage of product-level attributes for each store worldwide) of data storage and extracts from current users from teams distributed internationally

Create and maintain BI dashboards, reports, and visualization tools that enable stakeholders to easily access and interpret key Worldwide FBA seller metrics

Drive data validation and quality control through business intelligence best practices

Enhance data pipelines and systems by understanding their limitations and capabilities, ensuring reliable and efficient data processing and integration from various sources

Conduct advanced analytics to uncover trends, patterns, and insights. Utilize statistical techniques to develop predictive and prescriptive analytics models that can allow for effective business determinations

Work closely with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications. Communicate complex analytical findings and insights in a clear and concise manner to both technical and non-technical L10+ audiences

Provide guidance and mentorship to junior analysts within the team. Lead cross-functional projects and initiatives that drive business growth and operational excellence, promoting best practices in BI engineering and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience programming to extract, transform and clean large (multi-TB) data sets

  • Experience with theory and practice of design of experiments and statistical analysis of results

  • Experience in scripting for automation (e.g. Python) and advanced SQL skills.

  • Proficiency with data visualization using Tableau, QuickSight, or similar BIE tools

  • Demonstrated ability to work with engineering, product, and business teams to translate needs into technical requirements

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including comfortability presenting and communicating to senior leadership

  • 5+ years of writing advanced SQL queries

  • 3+ years of experience in a programming language such as Python, R, or Scala

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as computer science, statistics, analytics, or mathematics

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in computer science, mathematics, analytics, or similar quantitative field.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $117,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $202,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
