Amazon Data Engineer , DaS FinTech in Seattle, Washington

Are you interested in working with the teams that developed the Kindle, FireTV and Alexa? The Amazon Devices and Service Finance organization is expanding our technology team, and we are looking for a Data Engineer with expertise in the areas of requirements gathering, technical design, development, deployment, and integration to solve budgeting, planning, performance management and reporting challenges. This is an exciting opportunity for a results driven leader to architect solutions, build features and tools that will have an immediate impact, as well as partnering with finance and business leaders in Devices and Services to drive results. This role requires a self-starter with a strong financial modeling background, systems understanding and problem solving skills, a keen attention to detail, ability to work in a fast-paced environment with ambiguous situations, and solid skills in project management. Solutions must strike the right balance between precision and speed, providing ever more scalable and granular data models and reporting, without sacrificing accuracy or agility. You will need to think globally, as the products and features you create have worldwide impact.

Amazon needs individuals that bring the corporate finance experience AND the entrepreneurial aptitude to accelerate decision making and management of the business. Also needed is the intellectual capacity to produce innovative ideas/analysis and the willingness to do the heavy lifting to implement those decisions.

Key Responsibilities:

· Design, implement, and support applications that provide structured and timely access to actionable business information addressing stakeholder needs.

· Interface directly with stakeholders, gathering requirements and owning automated end-to-end reporting solutions.

· Partner with analysts, data engineers, business intelligence engineers, and software development engineers across Consumables org and Amazon to produce complete data solutions.

· Investigate and implement new big data technologies to solve business problems where appropriate.

· Participate in developing technical strategy for turning data into actionable information.

· Develop complex queries for ad hoc requests and projects, as well as ongoing reporting.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of data engineering experience

  • Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines

  • Knowledge of professional software engineering & best practices for full software development life cycle, including coding standards, software architectures, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing, and operational excellence

  • Experience with big data technologies such as: Hadoop, Hive, Spark, EMR

  • Experience building/operating highly available, distributed systems of data extraction, ingestion, and processing of large data sets

  • Experience working on and delivering end to end projects independently

  • Experience building large-scale, high-throughput, 24x7 data systems

  • Strong analytical skills, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with passions on

  • Good understanding of design for scalability, performance and reliability.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well in a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AWS technologies like Redshift, S3, AWS Glue, EMR, Kinesis, FireHose, Lambda, and IAM roles and permissions

  • Experience with non-relational databases / data stores (object storage, document or key-value stores, graph databases, column-family databases)

  • Experience in at least one modern scripting or programming language, such as Python, Java, Scala, or NodeJS

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $118,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $205,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
