Serco DOL VETS TAP: OBTT - Employment Resource Coordinator - Seattle, Washington in Seattle, Washington

Position Description

JOIN OUR TEAM to assist and prepare 200,000 servicemembers who separate annually from the United States Military begin a new life chapter as a civilian. The Department of Labor (DOL) Veterans’ Employment and Training Service (VETS) program requires contractor services to support these transitioning Servicemembers through its highly successful Transition Assistance Program (TAP) that is offered world-wide to conduct job assistance workshops, employment counseling, as well as connection to approved government and non-government partners Our team ensures servicemembers and their families have the necessary career tools and information to seamlessly transition into the civilian workforce.

The Employment Resource Coordinator (ERC) plays a vital role in assisting Veterans, those currently serving in the National Guard or Reserves, and their spouses in securing civilian employment by providing education and support services. The ERC will enhance the Off-Base Transition Training (OBTT) program by engaging in grassroots marketing, conducting outreach initiatives, collaborating with the local veteran community, and coordinating employment workshops at designated locations outside of active military installations.

In this role, you will:

  • Coordinate both in-person and potentially virtual workshops.

  • A high level of coordination, along with excellent written and verbal communication skills, is essential.

  • The ability to actively listen to OBTT participants and assist them in identifying and prioritizing their needs is required.

  • Provide screening and referral services and leverage a network of local, regional, and state resources for employment and employment readiness.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for activities in assigned areas of responsibility for all stakeholders, including representatives from the Department of Veterans Affairs, Department of Defense, Department of Labor, State Adjutant General offices, American Job Centers, and DOL VETS State Directors, among others.

  • Manage supplies, instructional materials, and office equipment, and prepare periodic reports.

  • Availability to work extended hours, including weekdays, weekends, and some holidays, may be necessary to meet emerging requirements under changing and constrained timelines.

  • Must communicate effectively, be comfortable instructing and speaking in front of groups, demonstrate observational skills, engage audiences, and respond to inquiries independently.

  • Possess excellent time management skills and the ability to work independently both on-site with clients and remotely.

  • Promote services using approved messages and materials within the assigned region to enhance awareness and conduct outreach to Veterans, National Guard and Reserve Members, and their Spouses. This position reports to a Project Manager.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A High School Diploma and 5 years of experience assisting veterans, service members, and/or spouses in the workplace

  • OR a Bachelor's degree and 3 years of employment or career counseling experience.

  • To be knowledgeable of the workplace, occupations, and requirements for entry for occupations in the areas of responsibility.

  • To be proficient in Microsoft Windows and Office.

  • To work well with veterans, National Guard and Reserve members, spouses, and interagency staff.

  • Experienced in negotiating with partners and outside organizations or agencies relating to veterans, National Guard and Reserve member, or their spouses.

  • The understanding of the military organizational structure, its occupational specialties and the correlation to the civilian workforce.

  • To be able to communicate effectively (orally and in writing).

  • To be able to facilitate meetings and provide briefings in-person and virtually.

  • To be able to prepare and deliver presentations to various size audiences.

  • The ability to travel 50%.
