Job Summary

*This is an on-site position

This position will serve on an engaging and dynamic team, playing a key role in ensuring planning and implementation of developmentally appropriate activities and curriculum are provided to the participants. You will oversee the planning and implementation of a safe and quality program, providing day-to-day support and overall management of the program site, maintaining participant records, developing promotional materials, assisting in monitoring program supplies and department budget, and coordinating transportation needs. You will supervise and evaluate the staff and volunteers, including hiring and training, maintaining required staff/child ratios, and conducting regular staff meetings. You will be an important part of helping maintain professional relationships with families, facility/school personnel, and the community.

    Hiring Range: $24.00 - $27.00/hour DOE

Responsibilities

  • Oversees assigned Y Healthy living Program area(s) following Association standards and guidelines

  • Recruits, trains, and supervises volunteer and paid staff

  • Develops special events and seasonal wellness programs for members.

  • Participates in marketing and retention activities.

  • Assists with development and management of the department budgets.

  • Maintains records related to program.

  • May lead wellness programming, Total Health consultations, off YMCA site programs

  • Conducts trainings as needed for volunteer and paid staff.

  • Plans, facilitates and instructs individuals, groups and/or classes.

  • Encourages member involvement and identifies potential volunteers.

  • Recruits volunteers for Total Health/Activate America program involvement.

  • Conveys basic information on Y Total Health/Activate America program areas.

Qualifications

You are 21 years of age or older and should have:

Seeking a background in management & supervision. Group exercise and/or personal training experience necessary.

  • High school graduate or equivalent. College degree preferred but not required.

  • Two+ years of relevant experience.

  • One year or more of supervisory experience.

  • Group exercise instructor or personal trainer certification.

  • Strong customer service skills, responding to multiple questions via phone, email and in person.

  • Ability to problem solve and resolve conflict.

  • Strong computer skills and experience working with word processing, spreadsheet and database software.

  • Knowledge of standard office equipment, such as fax machines, copiers and phone systems.

  • Current state approved first aid certification.

  • Current state approved CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification.

  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.

  • Working knowledge of preventative health and fitness programs and philosophy

  • Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.

  • Listen First Level I* and II** training

  • Facilitating Groups training*

  • Coaching With Care training*

  • Supervisor Certificate Series*

    • Within 30 days of employment or at first available training.

    ** Within 90 days of employment or at first available training.

    *Within 18-24 months of employment.
