Actalent Mechanical Engineer in Seattle, Washington

Description:

Responsible for the design of detailed drawings, prototype creation, maintenance documentation of work procedures, and testing of new products as directed by manager and/or customer specifications. Investigate and make alterations to product design to facilitate production assembly, for improved performance, or to meet customer requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create, maintain, improve, and document detailed multi-view drawings of engineered product and sub-assemblies; analyze engineering sketches, specifications, and related data and drawings to determine design factors such as size, shape, angles, weights, surface areas, dimensions, radii, clearances, tolerances, leverages, and arrangement of parts.

  • Create and maintain bills of materials for engineered products.

  • Design new products, mechanisms, and adaptations for the equipment product line, following manager directions and customer specifications, as well as maintaining budget.

  • Investigate alterations to designs for improved performance or the meet customer requirements.

  • Research materials, processes, or market requirements, as necessary.

  • Prepare preliminary layout drawings with responsibility for correct proportions and considerations to stresses, speeds, weights, and other details.

  • Change designs to meet shop requests and make alterations when in process, as required to facilitate production assembly.

  • Produce design specifications using CAD software tools, including parts lists and cost information.

  • Make prototypes or working models by hand or using computerized prototyping equipment.

  • Test the design concept using models, prototypes, specialized computer software, and CAD technology.

  • Maintain expected productivity and quality standards that make financial returns possible for the Company to continue to provide excellent service to our customers and job opportunities and career growth for our staff.

Skills:

Solidworks, stress analysis, manufacturing process, metal forming, machining, Welding standards, epicor, erp system

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

  • Drafting standards including ASME Y14.5, Y14.100, and Y14.41.

  • SolidWorks working knowledge and AutoCAD familiarity.

  • Proficient in MS Office applications.

  • Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and technical and measuring equipment.

  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes, machining, and metal forming

  • Material and Industry standard

  • Understanding of basic stress analysis

Preferred Experience

  • Proficiency with CAD software suites and ability to read and interpret drawings.

  • Ability to prepare technical documentation in support of engineering and experience with electronic "packaging" and document control.

  • Part maintenance in Epicor or other ERP systems.

  • Knowledge of welding standards
