Meta Product Design Engineering Intern, MR (Masters/PhD) in Seattle, Washington

Summary:

As a Product Design Engineering Intern on the Metaverse Mechanical Architecture team, you will help design solutions for next generation consumer mixed reality (MR) products. You will explore the ergonomics of MR headset design, investigating how each engineering design parameter impacts user comfort. We are looking for an inquisitive learner with strong communication skills who will apply engineering principles to solve real-world problems in creative and insightful ways.

Required Skills:

Product Design Engineering Intern, MR (Masters/PhD) Responsibilities:

  1. Explore skin contact comfort and establish foundational work

  2. Data collection and processing

  3. Collaborate with user research, concept development, and simulation teams to correlate qualitative user feedback with quantitative engineering metrics.

  4. Develop characterization methods for fabric constructions to quantify their properties that are critical to skin contact comfort.

  5. Literature Review

  6. Identification of critical factors

  7. Prototyping development

  8. Investigate the skin contact discomfort threshold as a function of wearable duration and load level.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a Masters or PhD in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, Human factors & ergonomics, textile engineering, or related field.

  2. Experience using 3D CAD software such as NX, solidworks, Creo, CATIA.

  3. Knowledge of building experimental setups via various technologies, such as 3D printing, CNC, laser cutting, Arduino, LabView, etc.

  4. Knowledge of signal processing and 3-dimensional data processing techniques.

  5. Familiarity with test and evaluation methods for user studies.

  6. Familiarity with statistical analysis on human test data. Experience using Matlab, Python, JMP or equivalent.

  7. Knowledge of material properties for fabric and human skin.

  8. Communication skills and experience working in teams.

  9. Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Intent to return to a degree-program after the completion of the internship/co-op .

  2. Experience with simulation analysis including skin properties (Ansys or equivalent).

  3. Knowledge of measurement system analysis (MSA) and Six Sigma.

  4. Knowledge of using 3D scan systems.
