The Regulatory Intelligence, Safety, and Compliance Legal (RISC Legal) team's mission is to maximize lawful selection of products offered in the Amazon stores while minimizing unlawful selection, product regulatory risk to Amazon, and negative impact on customer trust.

As a program manager on the RISC Legal team, you will work on meaningful, complex organizational, compliance and technology programs/projects. In your role you will deliver results on legal and compliance requirements by understanding our customer needs (e.g., requirements, data sources, metrics, mechanisms, risks, key dependencies, any automation/tools, etc.) and by utilizing risk-based project management frameworks.

We are looking for someone with a high degree of confidence who can utilize their skills to understand a broad range of issues and know how (and when) to implement solutions for them. To be successful in this role you should excel in working backwards; starting with customers, stakeholders, and any related teams & owners. This role requires learning and understanding customer, and stakeholder needs/problem(s) and the use of program management skills to translate them into project plans.

In this program manager role you must have the written and oral communication skills to facilitate productive stakeholder discussions and help teams make decisions and remove blockers.

This position requires that you be self-motivated and involves both independent and team work in a fast-paced environment that is constantly changing. You also need great judgment, a sense of humor, and a desire to learn and be curious.

A day in the life

The Amazon Stores RISC Program Manager will be responsible for managing an existing program. They will deliver difficult projects aligned with team goals while working independently, seeking guidance as needed. They will be embedded in a single team, partnering with the manager and other teams to deliver difficult, cross-functional projects. They will work directly with partner teams and will be expected to have a solid understanding of Amazon tools, workflows, and mechanisms. They will be responsible to make connections and ensure the right people are part of the conversation.

The Program Manager will prevent or mitigate the consequences of poor decisions, recognize when a proposed idea is too complex or risky, and arrange additional stakeholder or sponsor reviews. As part of project and program ownership, they will focus on the larger legal /compliance picture (i.e., customer experience, processes or problem, legal & risk - compliance issues, etc.). To drive the right outcomes, they will take the time to understand relevant requirements and goals. A successful project manager will be able to identify stakeholder needs and key performance indicators (KPIs). They will partner with other managers to secure resources, scope efforts, set project priorities and milestones, and drive delivery. They will be able to help teams determine where to iterate to make improvements as well as determine if success metrics are in place - if not, they will work to define them.

The Program Manager will meet timelines and minimize disruption to partner and engineering teams, especially during their peak efforts. They will manage overall schedule, proactively mitigate any risks, and keep the scope of effort under control. They will own all program communication and accelerate progress by driving crisp and timely decisions, clearing blockers (e.g., path to green), and escalating appropriately. They will apply process improvement methodologies (e.g., Agile, Lean, Kaizen analyses, or another approach). There is not a requirement to be certified but it is a plus if you have training in Six Sigma, PMP or Agile. Experience with Salesforce, Data Analysis, Amazon Projects is a big help in this role.

As the Program Manager, you may oversee a roll-out process including shepherding testing, and other launch efforts. You will include buffer time, plan for the unexpected, making sure that dependencies are not broken by changes related to the efforts you manage. You will plan effectively to make sure those involved in your projects are not thrashed and that outcomes are maintainable. You may also manage post-launch support plans (e.g., post-mortem, issue/ticket management, possibly COEs) and look for opportunities to improve system quality and operational excellence.

The Regulatory Intelligence, Safety, and Compliance Legal Team (RISC Legal) sits within Amazon NA Consumer Legal. RISC Legal's mission is to maximize lawful selection of products offered in our US and Canada online stores while minimizing unlawful selection, product regulatory risk to Amazon, and negative impact on customer trust. We regularly engage with regulators, selling partners, external stakeholders about the health of our product-level compliance.

Basic Qualifications

  • 2+ years of program or project management experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent

  • Experience in requirement gathering and ability to write clear and detailed requirement document

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Six Sigma tools and Lean techniques

  • Experience with Excel

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $47,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $107,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
